Where’s the Gravy?

Daily Farmhouse Journal

You ever driving out in the country and see an outhouse and wonder, hmm, what’s IN there?

No?

Oh, my God, I am weird. So I saw this outhouse near an empty cabin. I’d noticed it before, and had taken this exterior photo (left) a while back, but this time I actually got out of my car, scrambled over the bank and through the weeds….and opened the door. And peeked inside. (Will I stop at nothing in my pursuit of the finest in investigative reporting here in the country?)

Here’s what I found:

Mashed potatoes.

Suzanne, I do not have a comment… LOL! Okay, I take that back, the longer I sit here chuckling, I do. As someone who grew up in the country… seeing it through a ‘city-gal’s’(lovingly said) eyes for the first time as she truly desires to adjust… well, its been extremely… enlightening. Not to mention humorous. Thank you for bravely sharing these moments.

Is this a contest? Are we supposed to guess the contents of the can? lol I’m guessing it’s supposed to house the tp.

Outhouses aren’t my investigative desire, but I’ll just about break my neck lookin’ in peoples opened windows in the evening. Then there are the contents of garages. I’m just plain nosey.

Only the top portion of the picture showed on my screen and I had to scroll down. I was afraid to scroll. Hilarious!!!! :rotfl:

Did you actually open the can? You went this far; why not see what’s in the can? Haha!

I can say that except for the mashed potatoes, I knew exactly what was in that outhouse from personal experience. The only unknown factor, was it a one or two seater? I have even seen 3 seaters but rarely. This was very common when I was growing up. I am an original “country girl”, so outhouses were the norm not the exception. You were brave to check it out, Suz. Thanks for sharing with us. I can guess the potato can is to hold an extra roll of TP. Wouldn’t do to run out now would it? Your posts always entertain me  You are a jewel. Thanks for being you. to all.

I am REALLY hoping that it was simply a storage container for extra rolls of TP…otherwise, I don;t even want to begin to guess it’s purpose…lol

Yep, I was thinkin’ “well that’s to hold the tp” I hope you had a stick in your hand when you opened the door. You never know what critter has taken up home in there. Seriously, I speak from experience!

Well I’m definitely not a country girl - it didn’t even occur to me the can was there to hold tp. don’t even ask!

Very amusing. Not what I expected. I’m always making my husband stop so I can take pics of weird things, he thinks I’m nuts. Its so much fun you never know what you will find.
