Coco Takes A Bow

Dateline: A farm in the boonies.

Coco the Giant Puppy surprised a handful of observers yesterday with an unexpected descent from her porch-top quarters. The previously timid Great Pyr pup showed off her stair-stepping skills with the aplomb usually reserved for the experienced, full-grown dog.

















“It was no big deal,” Coco stated to the media. “I could have done it before if I’d wanted to.”

Quickly at ease with the farmhouse grounds, the famed livestock guardian pup frolicked in the mud and clambered about an overgrown hillside. Her comfortable style suggests fans can expect to see a less orderly-coiffed Coco in the future as the growing Great Pyrenees demonstrated a complete abandonment of hygiene and fashion. Rumors floated that Coco has expressed plans to go cocoa-colored.

Responding to concerns, Coco said, “I like mud. It feels good to roll around in it. It tastes good, too.”

The giant pup’s foray onto the farm wasn’t greeted with enthusiasm by all residents.

The cats disappeared without comment, but a press spokes-hen delivered the chickens’ unified position: “We feel this was an unnecessary development and we are disappointed in the decision.”





Dookie-the-farm-shih tsu, after spending much of the past few weeks with the giant puppy on the porch, turned down cable news channel requests for an inside story, making this terse statement: “I go down the stairs all the time and nobody cares.”





Coco, oblivious to both praise and criticism, had only this to say on her return to the porch: “Will you scratch my belly?”

    And I suppose the spokes-hen had Spartacus tied up in the chicken house….else the quote would have been very different.

    What a brave girl to tackle the stairs all by herself. I hope she was praised enthusiastically for this new development. The chickens are just jealous that she isn’t cooped up and they are!

    You captured the Pyr’s personality perfectly when you said she could have done it before if she wanted, and she’s “oblivious to both praise and criticism”. Ha Ha! Funny format. (I’m just full of alliteration today…among other things.)

    Have your heard that Pyr’s are diggers?
    That’s how the Pyrenean Mountains were formed.

    Love the blow by blow coverage…. I want to kiss that puppy belly and blow raspberries. More later on our potential adoption of a Lhasa Apso from a lady moving back to Denmark sometime this year. Name of 5 yr old pup, Little Bit. A bit too cute for me, but she’s a cute dog. Needs a serious hair cut though as the resembles a shaggy mop or a small English sheep dog… that is very low slung and long.

    I love hearing about Coco and the other animals. I’m a two doggie owner. My doggies are Schnoodles and sisters. They too are very loving and sweet. They would love Coco.I would love Coco. hehe
    I’m so happy for you and your family returning to your roots. West Virginia is a beautiful state and very difficult to leave behind.

The Slanted Little House

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either.
