okay…it's a new day…what's for dinner today?

I would love to have some Crispy Orange Beef, from a Chinese resteraunt here…but I have been craving fried chicken for a few days and my husband wants to watch the Olympics - so I have a feeling the fast food is going to win out.

I'm cookin' for the cousins today!  My cousinsn are all coming over and I'm having a big dinner on the porch with them and my parents and the kids, etc.  We're having baked ham and corn on the cob (from the Farmer's Market), green beans from our garden, and whatever else fresh I haul out of the garden today!

We are in the middle of our little town's annual celebration, and tonight was the Pork Producers' Fundraising dinner.

Oh, it was heavenly!

Perfectly barbecued pork steaks that were ENORMOUS and tender and good and everything else wonderful you could write about them.

Sweet potato french fries from locally grown potatoes. I just love these things.

The absolute best homemade German slaw with the pickled red cabbage in the world.

Hot out of the oven peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top!

The cost? $8!

ETA: Suzanne, isn't there something special about ham in the summer? I always feel that a summertime ham means a celebration! It just tastes better somehow, and I don't know why.

Tomorrow (Sunday) I am going to bake a ham and make scalloped potatoes.   I might, might, try to make Grandmother Bread.  I've never made bread, so that could be interesting.

OMG< all of your posts sound WONDERFUL and how neat is THAT, that you can just pull your own vegies out of your own garden, Suzanne!!!! Nothing beats fresh!

Nothing exciting on my end today…grilling Polka Keilbasa sausage, with grilled Vidalia onions, and maybe some canned sweet potatoes with brown sugar, cinnamon and butter.

I've got an abscessed tooth so tonight I had cream of chicken soup. Hopefully the antibiotics will have kicked in enough that I can eat other stuff. I'm going to throw some chicken in the crock pot with my BBQ sauce.  My husband loves it so I don't tell him I just threw it together one day. It's just ketchup, molasses, mustard and liquid smoke.  If I want it a little spicier, I throw in some red pepper flakes, but the kids do not approve.

I have no idea what's for dinner today and the power just went out!!  We had beans and cornbread last night, and I'm having leftover beans and cornbread for breakfast.  I think I could eat it for every meal but the kids would revolt, LOL.  If the power doesn't come back on for a long time, we're probably having sandwiches…..

I'm in full cook mode here today.  We got up early and went to the farmer's market.

We're having meatloaf, squash casserole, green beans, mashed potatoes, fresh tomatoes and cottage cheese.

I'm also baking a peanut butter cake and zucchini bread today.
