Quite a few years ago, I came across a recipe for Dump Cake.  It was similar to a cobbler, but with actual cake on the topping.  I have no idea where the recipe is, or where I got it from.

Has anyone heard of this, or better yet, have a recipe??

I'd really like to make it again — delicious, and FAST, FAST, FAST.

Here's my Dump Cake recipe!  Love this cake!!!  It IS easy and so good!

1 can pie filling (any fruit)

1 8-ounce can crushed pineapple

1 box yellow cake mix

1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

1/2 cup butter

In a 9×13 cake pan, pour the pie filing and pineapple; spread evenly.  Pour the cake mix; spread evenly.  Sprinkle the nuts (unless your kids hate it when you put nuts in cake, which mine do).  Slice butter and distribute evenly over the entire mixture.  Bake at 350-degrees for 30-45 minutes (check carefully from 30 minutes on).

My mother used to make this in a large Trifle bowl..my husband loved it. I just remember the broken up chunks of cake, and all of it sort of layered…not sure if whipped cream was on it…but it was pretty. She used cherry filling I remember. She also made her Banana pudidng in a large Trifle bowl (which I posted on this forum) - it was very rich. I took it to a party and the host said “I know this banana pudidng is baked..I can tell, because I won't eat ANY OTHER'”. (It was not baked).

I like the sounds of yours Suzanne…it sounds more MY type than my mothers. I am like your children. I do NOT like nuts in my cake or brownies (only in Wedding cookies). I love them on top/toasted..but NOT INSIDE - I hate the different textures of soft/hard, is prob. why. Plus I prefer toasted nuts.

I am having a Peri-menopause brain freeze. Suzanne, you do make the cake BATTER and pour that all over, right? Not the dry cake mix?

No, you just dump it all in there.  I have no idea why it works.  It's magic!

I have done that dump cake and it is great.  I also do this one - 2 bags of frozen mixed fruit or 2 cans of pie filling.  then take one white or yellow cake mix and mix a stick of melted butter together and drop on to the fruit or pie filling.  there will be enough to cover the 9 x13 dish and then sprink pecan pieces on it.  it all runs together when it bakes.  350 until brown on top.  great too.

We make the same recipe as Suzanne’s but sometimes we make a veriation, and use just blueberry pie filling, or just cherry. It is all so darn good!

I have the same recipe as suzanne, but I drain the pineapple juice into a medium sauce pan with 1 stick of butter over low heat until the butter has melted. Place pie filling in bottom of pan, even spread the crushed pineapple over the pie filling. Pour the dry cake mix (we use duncan hines butter recipe cake mix as we just perfer the taste of that brand) on top of the fruit then spoon the butter/juice mixture over the cake mix making sure that every bit of cake mix is covered.

serve while warm with a scope of ice cream mmmmm

When we make it at my house we use 2 sticks of butter. I don't know how it tastes with 1… Using 2 sticks makes it quite moist. It's very good. Unfortunantly its also a heart attack ready to happen…

I have a recipe for Pumpkin Dump Cake…it is the favorite “Pumpkin Pie” at my Thanksgiving table and talk about smelling up your house!  oh my, you all must try this it is truly delicious…

16 oz can of pumpkin

12 oz can evaporated milk

1 1/2 C sugar

2 t. cinnamon

3 1/4 t Nutmeg

1/4 t Ginger

4 eggs

Mix all together and pour into a greased & floured pan.  take 1 yellow cake mix and pour dry cake mix on top of wet pumpkin mixture, melt two sticks of butter and pour ontop of cake mix, sprinkle with pecans and bake at 350 for 1 hour (mine takes longer sometimes)

note:  this rises up into a dome kinda thing over your pan and as it cools it falls back down level with your pan…the first time I made this i thought I had done something wrong but it does this every time and oh my goodness gracious…this is delightful.  the longer this sits the better it is too!!!!

I have made pumpkin dump cake for 11 yrs or so and it is wonderful and it feeds a lot more people than a pie would.  mine is a bit different.  I use 6 eggs or eggbeaters and the spices are different 1 tsp ginger, 2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp cloves.   1 tsp salt.  i take the cake mix and melt 1/2 cup butter and pour it in the cake mix and them mix.  i drop by drops on to the pumpkin pie mixture in a 13×9 pan that I sprayed with oil.  the heat melts the cake mixutre fine.  I also use nuts on top too.

Either way it is very very good and yes gets better the longer it sits .  I have a pumpkin cookbook too!!
