Any luck with the “set” of aprons??

I’ve been looking for an apron, or even an apron pattern, like the one my great-grandmother wore. She wore it over everything - was never without it unless she was going to church, and even then she put that apron on over her church clothes the minute she got home. It was what they call a cobbler’s apron, I suppose. It went over her shoulders and had a bib both front and back to the waist. The apron skirt was gathered at the waist and full. It went to her knees, and had one big pocket in the front at the waistline. She could take the tail of the apron and make a sling of it to carry eggs, or ripe tomatoes, or beans, or whatever needed carrying. I find myself in the garden in a T-shirt taking the tail and turning it up to make a pouch. It’s a poor substitute for her apron. Does anyone make aprons like this anymore? I could probably find a picture of her wearing one of these aprons when I unpack my family photos.
Sorry for the overly long post - and I’m not sure I have anything anyone would want to trade for - but I would be willing to give or pay most anything to have a new “great-grandmother’s” apron.

Check out these.  A couple of them look like what you are describing.

Hi, If I can see a picture of your grandmas apron, I am sure I can replicate it or at least get very close.  I am pretty sure I know what you are talking about, but I would really like a picture to go by. Tell me a bit about the fabric, colors, flowers,  etc and how tall you are.  I would love to helpyou with it.

Those vintage patterns are so pretty!  I don't think I could pick one.  I'd have to have ruffles, and pockets, lots of pockets.

Heidi

Love the site with the old patterns.  I have one of the 1950 apron patterns and made it when my son was born.  Loved all the pockets it had in it for thigs.

That sound like my grandmother.I can't ever remember her without an apron on. She had so many pockets. What ever she needed would appear like magic out of those pockets!

I have a rather large collection of aprons that were made for me when I was little.  I also have many that belonged to my great aunts, grandmothers and my mother.  I also have the first dish towel and apron that I made for 4-H projects.  I also have two small white aprons that I 'had to make' for a 4-H demonstration on bread that my friend and I 'had' to do together.  (There are lots of “mandatory have funs” growing up!)

My grandmother is 100.  She woke up after a few hours of sleep the other night — and then proceeded to wake everyone else up (she thought it was morning) — she was fully dressed, with her apron on.  The apron is a must!  In her lifetime, she has worn out many an apron.

I love them for the memory of the people that wore them, the fabrics they were made from (many from feedsacks) and the blood, sweat and tears that I produced when I first learned to sew!
