A little about ME ~ I’m Stephanie (or at least my name says). I always wanted to be called Annie rather than Steph. It never caught on. I’m from Charlotte, NC but grew up in a little town in north of Pittsburgh, PA. (Go Steelers!) I’m married to my highschool sweetheart - I call him J. We have one furbaby Milo. Poor guy - he’s so very confused. He’s part Bassett & part Doberman. I’m still not quite sure how that happened. Well, I’m sure of how it happened, but.. You get the point.

I love to travel, and am slowly learning how to cook.   I work a full time job outside the home, and then help J with his business as well.

In my dreams, I craft day long instead of doing accounting. (Can 2 things be more different?) In my dreams, I have an actual craft room instead of a bedroom with mix and match tables & desks. In my dreams, I am a master of my camera. In my dreams, I hope to Inspire at least one person with my creations.

I'm Suzette.  I'm a militantly single lady of 60, living in a Memphis suburb.  I have country roots and have spent my share of time traversing dirt roads, feeding chickens and generally enjoying country life.  But, currently, I'm a city girl. I have one child, a 26-year old daughter who is a Navy veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom.  She's now a model, actress and web developer.

I'm a person driven by my hobbies.  My hobbies drove more than one husband totally nutz!  I've been deeply into stained glass, sewing, soaping, camping, quilting, candle-making, gem-cutting, silversmithing, beading, drawing, painting and presently, jewelry-making.  This one feels like “the” art for me.  I'm really loving it - plus I get to wear a lot of neat jewelry!  Oh, yeah…and through it all, photography has always anchored everything else.

I worked for 31 years at the national headquarters of a nonprofit organization focusing on disability.  Eight years ago, they moved me from my home in Texas to the Washington, DC area, where I lived for nearly six years.  When they let me go, I moved to Memphis to be near family.  I was “overqualified” for every nonprofit job I applied for and ended up in a totally new career, managing ticket sales for a performing arts venue…and I love it.  So much change within a decade that most people think of as a time when one slows down!  I've never been normal in pretty much every way, anyway! :)

I love Suzanne's blog.  It's the first thing I do in the morning.  The enjoyment I got here inspired me to start my own…and I'm enjoying doing that, too!

It's nice to meet you all!

Hi, My name is Peggy and I live in Fayetteville, NC. I was born and raised in the western mountains of NC and miss them alot. Married to a retired army guy that is now on the road a lot as owner/operator trucker. My 3 daughters are grown and married giving me 9 fantastic grands to spoil. We have a small dairy goat farm that keeps me busy. Our Nubians are like our children. Each has their own personality and are so lovable. I use the milk for drinking, cheese making, ice cream, soaps, lotions and candles. We also have the normal chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits on the farm and they too all have names. Life at Hidden Haven is busy but I love it.

Hi all,

I'm Molly, 37, married to my wonderful DH.  We have 5 kids 22, 20, 18, 9 and 7.

We live on a little plot of land about an hour outside DC.  I have dreams of chickens and canning all sorts of garden produce, but it has not happened yet. LOL  I did get apple trees this though!

I would love to eventually have a larger plot of land, farther out in the country…but that would be far in the future. LOL

Nice to “meet” everyone.

Hi, I'm Wende and I live in western Colorado with my sweetie and two cats, Kinky and Spud.  I'm 38, no kids of my own, although Sweetie has 3 girls, 22-20-13, and 2 granddaughters, 3 yr. and 4 mo.  The girls all live in northern CA.  I work for an organic apple sauce company.  We have cherry and apple orchards and make lots of apple sauce.  Well, I use the term 'we' loosely…  I manage the office and take care of all the pesky paperwork that goes along with running a business.  No farm of my own, but I live in a rural community and there are no shortage of goats, sheep, chickens, cows and horses around to satisfy my need for picturesque country life.  I've lived in ID, AZ, NM, CA and here, and always been drawn to small town life.  Really enjoying  Chickens In the Road!

I am a 37 year-old mother and wife living in Moncure, NC.  I have one daughter, 14 and one son, 11.  I always wanted more children and I am now blessed with 2 bonus daughters 12 & 9.  I work as a student services specialist at a large state university.  I lived in suburbian Raleigh, NC for over 20 years…high school, college and throughout my first marriage.  Then I met the love of my life (while the ink was still wet on my divorce papers) when I tagged along with my best friend to a pig pickin' at a horse ranch.  Coincidentally the ink was still wet on his papers too.  The timing wasn't right to date but we kept in touch and 3 years later we were married.  We recently bought a house and a little bit of land  in the country right next to his father's 100-acre horse ranch (where we met).  Our older daughters love to ride so we currently own 2 very spoiled horses.  We have 2 house dogs and we have somehow acquired 2 porch dogs from our neighbors.  I plan to get milk goats next year so I can make cheese.  This is not the life I would have pictured for myself but I am the happiest and most fulfilled I have ever been.  My husband is a wonderful partner and father to all of our children, our kids get along fabulously and they all love country life.  We are are blessed with health, a large loving family and abundant gardens!

Hi, I'm Vic.  I live in NE Kansas in a very small town.  I have three daughters, the oldest is almost 30 and has three kids, her husband is in the Air Force, the next one is 27 and has two kids, her husband is in the Ministry and then I have an almost 14 y/o at home.  I was married to a very wonderful woman for a little over 29 years and have been widowed for a little over two.

A few years before she died we bought a small farm, five acres, house and a barn.  I started remodeling it, and boy did it need it.  Since I was working on it by myself but I didn't get it finished before her death.  Her death was totally unexpected.  I haven't done much except keep the payments up for the last two years but I am ready to start working on it again.  My youngest daughter says I won’t get it done before she is in college, she may be right.

I stumbled onto this site a few days ago and have really enjoyed it.  Thank you, Suzanne for a very interesting, great site.

My name is Bonny.  I live in Northwest Indiana in a small town.  I want to go to Kentucky where my family is from, but I share custody with my ex and have to wait until the kids are older.  I have three boys, 12, 9, and 4.  I work two jobs, I care for an elderly lady, I go to school full time, and I am about to lose my mind.  Seriously.  I have been in a relationship for the last 5 years after my divorce with a great man.  I know, not very interesting stuff.  No goats or chickens here, but hopefully in my future.

I'm Kim.  I'm a 49 year old Ohio homeschooling mom - in our 16th and last year!  We have 2 awesome young ladies - 20 and 17 years old.  I am a writer/product reviewer/Ohio coordinator for The Old Schoolhouse homeschool magazine and a speaker. My family loves music - 3 of us are on our church's praise team - my hubby and a daughter sing and I trade off between singing, hammered dulcimer, Irish penny whistle and flute.  I am about to get my Associate's Degree from a small seminary (nope…NOT going to be a lady preacher!  lol  Just getting me degree(s) to see where I might go after we graduate our last daughter this spring) and am going on for my Bachelor's.  I'm excited about that…but it's sure different being the STUDENT after all these years!!

We live - by choice - in a very small town - actaully it's so small it's a village - in a rural county.  We are on the extreme edge of the town but we would love to be farther out in the country.  Suzanne…what you have done is our dream…although ours includes either a log home or a reproduction farmhouse!  My husband and my parents all grew up on farms and it's been so exciting to see how far you've come in such a short time and to know that it CAN be done.  KEEP WRITING!!

Blessings from Ohio…

Hi my name is Mim. I live in Malden WV (5 miles of the Capitol). married 14 yrs in Oct- 2 kids- son 26 & single- daughter 20- married w/ 2 kids. We built each kid their own starter “home” on the lot next to ours. I also have 2 cats, 1 dog, 1 rabbit & 3 alpacas. We really got the cart before the horse when we got the alpacas. Only had almost an acre that had total of 3 houses on it but we went to look at the alpacas one weekend and bought them and brought them home the next. Built a fence probably in record time. I felt so lucky to finally have alpacas…but my luck even got better. An acre runs across the back side of our property & I had talked to the property owner for years trying to purchase it… I had the alpacas home for about 3 days & the property owner sent word that he was ready to sell…So of course, I know have enough room for more alpacas, some goats & chickens. I am hoping that my Dad who was raised on a farm in Roane County, WV can provide me valuable information on this adventure of mine. Well thats my life in a nutshell….oh also I only have a little more than 3 yrs to retire….

I am 53, divorced with a 24 yr old son.  I live in Mesquite, Texas.  I am a twin.  My twin sister is an attorney in Houston and use to be a part time judge.  She runs Rescue Bank a nonprof organization she and John started to warehouse food, crates and other items for no kill shelters.  They send food and crates and other supplies like computers to shelters.  They sent trucks of food and crates for the victims of Katrina.  I have a rescue dog named Harry Potter who is the same dog as Suzanne's dookie.  I like antiques, crafts, reading, movies, symphony.  My job takes me to several places.  I have lived in very large cities and rurual areas too.  in the city i like to have the shopping, restaurants and to feel like I am in something larger than me.   It is hard to disclose my profession so I choose to leave that out - not that it is anything illegal or immoral - the opposite actually but it is better to leave it unsaid for now.

in the rural area i like how we all know each other, every Tuesday night at the DQ you know who is going to be there for half price hamburger night whether they buy the hamburer that night or not.  You get closer to people there, people in the couty know you too even if you live far away.  where I am now it is a fairly large city 10 min from Dallas but i miss the folk in the country and some of that lifestyle.

I ran across Suzanne's site while looking for a craft idea one day and have stayed since.  It starts my day.  so nice to meet you all on line.   Jeremy - we all wish you the best when you go to Iraq.  I hope and pray someday the war is over.

I'm Laura from Delaware.  I just turned 50, married to a very laid back country boy for 10 years, have a grown daughter who is 26, and just love this site.  Suzanne you always start my day off with a smile!  I am the “Office Goddess” for a construction company, however since I turned 50 and the hot flashes came the very next day, I am now known as the “Office B***h”.  I do both titles very well.  I have an old black lab and the sweetest black cat in the house, just had to put my beloved pug, Sadie Ann, down, very hard day.  I have attempted Grandmother Bread once, and improvement is needed, but was still delicious.  I have tried the Brunswick Stew recipie by Bee Yourself and hubby and I both loved it and am planning to make again tomorrow (If T.S. Hannah doesn't change our plans).  I love wine, I love wine, I love wine, I love wine.  When things are all crazy, wine a little and you'll feel better.  I love wine.  Did I mention, I love wine?  Well, I love wine.  I also love fall, hate summer, so September is my favorite month.  Goodbye to hot humid weather, hello to fall!  Would prefer to be neck deep in snow then sweat dripping off my nose from Delaware humidity topped off with a hot flash.  Hey, if O-biden wins the ticket, not many people can say they babysat the vice-president's kids once, but I will be able to!  Too cool.  Thanks for starting this forum and this topic.  I love the crockpot topic as well!  Nice to meet y'all!  Suzanne, I won  a copy of Third Sight, and am loving it!  Thanks again….Laura
