Since I'm new here, I could just be missing a thread with a 'who are you' theme. I'm not seeing one so I'll start one. Share a little about who you are using these questions…
1. Where do you call home and where were you raised?
I live south of Atlanta Georgia in a small town with 80 miles of golfcart paths and a big lake. We're surrounded by blackberry thickets, old baptist churches and trees…lots of trees. I was raised in Atlanta.
2. Who lives in your home now (animals included) and who calls you mama?
My husband of eight years, my college aged daughter, a young lady attending ministry school at our church, two cats, Abby and Dark Kitty and three dogs, Sassy, Annie Fannie and Savannah. I also have a son at Auburn Univ.
3. What careers have you dipped your toe in?
After college I did computer programming at Delta. Also substitute taught, owned a nanny agency, ran a pearl company and taught family budgeting.
4. If you could invite three people from any time period to dinner…who would it be?
Jesus, Mark Twain, and Ronald Reagan.
5. What would you serve at that dinner?
Fried chicken, milk gravy with the little crispies, buttermilk biscuits, sweet potato soufflet with brown sugar pecan topping, fried okra, sliced beefsteak tomatoes, banana puddin' and peach iced tea.
6. If you'd known at the time it was the last time…what would have made you cry?
There was a time when I set my son and my daughter down, out of my arms, for the last time. If I'd known it was the last time I'd be picking them up, I would have cried like a baby. Also, the last time I spoke with grandmama.
7. Who was the most influential person in your life?
My Aunt E…short from Emma Lou. She had dimples so deep you could put your finger in them and eyes bluer than the logride water at Six Flags. She taught me growing older doesn't mean losing a youthful heart.
8. What makes you happy?
An open window with nippy fall blowing in, peaceful music filling the room and a hot drink. Add my loved ones coming to dinner and life is full.
9. What are your top favorite movies?
Fried Green Tomatoes, Braveheart, and The Notebook.
10. What one thing have you learned over life that stands out as a key to happiness?
Let folks know you love them. Share with them now what you would share at their funeral. Don't hold back. And….from my mama….it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Wow, that's alot to remember, so I will start with number one and keep referring up there. Miss Dana, you are a good writer, like Suzanne! LOL
1. I guess I would call home here or Texas, although I really have no roots. I grew up as an Air Force brat, so we lived all over the place. My father is from West Texas and mother is from Louisiana. I would love to put down roots somewhere, but I would prefer somewhere NOT HUMID, like here.
2. My husband and I live in our home and my Parakeet calls me Mama.
3. I have dipped my toe in dental assisting, oral surgery (very brief), Civil Service (ward clerk and secretarial and oral surgery).
4. I would invite to dinner Jesus, Ruth Graham, Ann Frank
5. I would have it catered - Chinese food or southern cooking - fried chicken, white cream gravy, hot dinner rolls…pastry for dessert, like Napoleons OR a big chocolate cake.
6. my mother dieing…even though I knew she was dieing
7. my mother
8. spending time with friends - hanging at thier house (I like friends that inspire me), dining out, reading, walking in forrests…and wish I had a husband that LOVED to spend every minute with me that he could.
9. Romeo and Juliet (the first one - from the 60's), 91/2 Weeks, First Knight
10. Making God the center of my life…my FIRST priority.

1. Where do you call home and where were you raised? Right now my home for the past 17 years has been Pensacola, FL. It's the western gate of the sunshine state, where thousands live the way millions wish they could. I love it here except for August. Just tooo darn hot in August.
I was born and raised on the Mississippi River in NW Illinois. It was the best place to grow up. Since then I have lived in Virginia, Indiana and Florida. My husband is retired Navy, thus the moves.
2. Who lives in your home now (animals included) and who calls you mama?
My DH (darlin' husband) of 22 years, my 21 year old DS (yep, Darlin' son) and our babies, Dakota our lachow, and Boots, the tomcat. We also have a 28 year old DS and a 26 year old DS (as of 10/6). who live on their own.
3. What careers have you dipped your toe in?
Gosh I hope this doesn't change your opinion of me, but my first job as a stripper. I was still in high school and I worked half days and went to school half days. I've also worked as a gas station attendant (back when they pumped gas), a grocery store cashier, a TV camera operator, a teacher's aide and now I'm an Vocational Education Data Specialist specializing in Adult Education.
4. If you could invite three people from any time period to dinner…who would it be?
I would invite both sets of my grandparents, they all died by the time I was two years old. They are who I'd most like to have a conversation with.
5. What would you serve at that dinner?
Probably a simple meal, Chicken and dumplin's and Apple, Strawberry, Rhubarb, Raspberry Blueberry pie. It wouldn't be about the food, it would be all about the conversation.
6. If you'd known at the time it was the last time…what would have made you cry?
Probably the last time I talked to my dad before he died. But it's probably a good thing I didn't. I wouldn't have been able to even talk.
7. Who was the most influential person in your life?
I can't really put a finger on just one person. I believe everyone comes into your life for a reason and I am inspired daily by people I meet. I've learned many lessons over the years from people who I didn't think I had anything to learn from.
8. What makes you happy?
The laughter of my family (we have three boys) around the dinner table. We don't leave the table when we are done eating. We sit there forever just talking. It's such great time.
9. What are your top favorite movies?
Big Fish, Remember the Titans, Field of Dreams
10. What one thing have you learned over life that stands out as a key to happiness?
It's never as bad as it really seems. IF you don't let bad things that happen define you, they will strengthen you.
and As my momma used to say, this too shall pass.

Isn't it crazy Deb that you live on the Iowa side and have looked at IL all your life and I lived on the IL side and looked at Iowa the first 18 years of mine?
I used to sit in my bedroom window and watch the storms come across from Iowa. But I was born in Iowa because that's where the hospital was.
