It’s tough being a mom. You gotta watch those kids all the time. Sleep with one eye open. You never know what they’ll get into. Scampering about, all sweetness and sunshine, one minute….
….and running into the street-or, escaping the fence-the next.
When we first got the babies, they were so little they could squeeze through the openings in the woven wire farm fence. They didn’t go anywhere-they always cried to get back in with mama. (For some reason, they could manage to get out, but they could never quite figure out how to get back in.) Then they got too big to get out.
Or so I thought.
But there they were, out again.
C’mon, babies. Get back in here.
Whew.
Everybody’s back where they belong. I feel better, don’t you, Clover?
Clover: “Did you bring any cookies?”
Clover! You gotta focus. Give them a lecture. I know they’re cute, but- Oh, look!
There’s that little Nutmeg, playing house on the milkstand, pretending to be a big grown mama with milk! She is cute.
Nutmeg: “Did you bring any cookies?”
Yes, you are just like your mother!
Okay, Coco? Pay attention. You’re in charge. Get your crazy tongue back in your mouth! This is serious!
That’s better. You have a job, you know.
COCO!
Coco: “But they just want to play.”
No, they don’t! They just want cookies! And here I go, bribing them back to the gate with cookies…..
And, hunh. Further investigation proved that yes, in fact, they are too small to squeeze out through the fence. What they did was find a gap at the bottom of the fence back in this corner of the yard.
Gap corrected.
Clover? You’ve got to watch these babies, you hear me?
Clover: “I need fortification. A lot of fortification.”
I know, I know, I know. You don’t have to tell me. This mom thing is so hard. You gotta sleep with one eye open. Blah, blah, blah. I’ll get the cookies………

Kids will be kids, won’t they? Nutmeg looks so grown up on the milk stand. She might be the one who really gets your cheese making going once she’s old enough. Unless she’s just teasing you. xxoo

They are just so cute and…kids will be kids…right. As you have found though, cookies seem to solve a multitude of problems with all children…and Clover and Coco, etc.

I always say about my own kids, there is a reason why they’ve been made so cute-so we keep them! ;)

I haven’t commented lately, but I have been reading daily! I want goat cheese! How do you find all the hours in the day to milk a goat, take pictures of darling baby goats, play with a giant puppy, raise your own children, write books, cook and everything else? Grandmother Bread is a staple around here now, btw. I stopped baking for a while this summer, I had a bad cold that lasted a month, but now that school has started again and the kids need lunches, bread baking will start! The bread is awesome and easier than I ever thought it could be.

Don’t look now, but I think Coco is a co-conspirator instead of a watch dog.
“But mom, I just wanted them to come out and play with me. Don’t tell mom, but maybe I can help them find another gap in the fence, and we can be together again! Or at least we can get a lot more cookies out of the deal.”
Or at least I think that’s what she’s saying…

I discovered long ago that there is no situation that cookies can’t improve. Next time the kids are…well…kid-like - have a cookie. Or six.

Yeah, they’re insidiously smart. They’re literally Pavlov’s Goats.
My chihuhua’s pretty much have me trained this way also.

P.S. - oh, I forgot…this morning I heard my husband say “look at that!” and I looked out trying to make out what was on the birdfeeder on our fence. I THOUGHT it was a fat Dove and heard DH say “he’s going to break it”…it turned out to be “Rocky” - a squirrel…walking around the bottom tray of the birdfeeder, eating the seed and then eating out of the holes above. It was so funny!!! I remembered the squirrels that would get in my parents feeder. I had to knock on the window twice, to get him to leave for good. LOL He has nuts buried in our yard, front and back.

Suzette is right - there is nothing that cookies cant improve, change and make alright again. cookies can save the day!!! Well maybe Coco can save the day too and uh pie on the pie porch too!!!! so have yourself some pie - and it will be alright!!!

I love seeing pics of the goats! I remember having to go round up goats at my mother in laws when I was first married. They weren’t really tame like yours are though. That was an adventure. Coco’s gotten so big! She doesn’t have that puppy face anymore, but she’s still so cute.
Good luck with the kids not getting out again. I hope you don’t have climbing logs near the fence, they can jump over it and then not be able to get back in.

The baby goats are so cute and already getting into trouble! My neighbors goats got in my back yard and played on top of the picnic table and with the metal lawn chairs until we got them back home. They are a joy to watch when they are playing.
