Is it time to relax? Oh yeah, I think so. Kahlua is a simple coffee liqueur and it’s easy to make at home. Pour yourself a glass of homemade Kahlua tonight. It’ll be ready in an hour. I’ll tell you how! (Pictured: Quick White Russian.)

How to make Kahlua:
3 cups sugar
3 cups water
10 teaspoons instant coffee
(edit: OR instead of 3 cups water and 10 teaspoons instant coffee, use 3 cups brewed coffee-I like that better!)
3 cups vodka
3 teaspoons vanilla extract

In a medium-sized pot, simmer sugar, water, and coffee for one hour.

Turn off heat and add vodka and vanilla extract; stir well. Using a funnel or a dipper with a pour spout, transfer Kahlua into clean containers. Refrigerate to store.
Here, I used an old Kahlua bottle I’d saved plus a canning jar. And wow, it is that quick. You’re done! Easy Kahlua drink (Quick White Russian)-two parts Kahlua to one part milk, pour over chipped ice.
Make a Frozen Mudslide! Using about 2/3 cup Kahlua, add a couple ounces Bailey’s Irish Cream and an extra dash of vodka. Now plop a scoop of vanilla ice cream into your glass and squeeze a dollop of chocolate syrup on top! (Could also put this combination in the blender.)
Who’s ready for the weekend already?

Now that’s my kind of recipe! I might need copious amounts of Kahlua just to make it through to Spring.
BTW, re. your photo of the day: I can’t believe the kids get a day off school for a measly two inches of snow.
Lucky them! How many snow days this year? Is there any snow removal equipment for the roads? Probably not. Well, here we’re not equipped to deal with other weather issues like tornadoes and such, so each geographic area has its problems!

I know, we’re wimpy here, aren’t we? Every time it snows a couple inches, school is closed. I think they’re just not equipped to clean the roads off fast enough here, especially the backroads, so they can’t get the busses out to the kids. So, school’s closed. They’re out of days they’re allowed to add to the end of the school year, so every day they’re off now won’t be made up.

Excellent idea! It looks so easy! I’ve made homemade Irish Cream, your Kahlua looks easier and quicker. I love White Russians!

You really are a wealth of information! So tell me, while you are blogging, photographing, building a house, are you still writing romance novels? Oh, and dating, too.

Oh Black Russians are my favorite mixed drink. Which is just Kaluha and more vodka lol. I am definitely going to try this one. Do you think there is a way of making it from real coffee?????

Instant coffee?! Blasphemy!
Mmmm, Kahlua… that does sound good, though.
Love the metallic chicken in the background of the sixth picture, though. Is that decoration, or does it do something?
Either way, pretty cool.

catslady, I was thinking that myself, that next time I’d make it with real coffee. It seems to me that you could make it with 3 cups of real coffee instead of 3 cups of water and the instant coffee. I didn’t think that through until after I made it!
Elcie, the metal rooster is just a decoration. It’s neat, though, isn’t it? It was a gift from a good friend. I love it!

I have tons of painting paraphernalia and I’m SO ready for a few margaritas, after the crappy day I’ve had at work. (Computer gremlins, I think.)

Oh that’s great - I was hoping you’d thought I could do the regular coffee - I grind my own and think it will taste better than the instant. I just have to buy the vodka now and we’re having a snow storm at the moment - but soon lol.

I can remember a trip to Disneyworld, with my sister and her two young boys, at that time. She kept wanting to hit the bar at our hotel, to get a White Russian - she loved those or LOVES those…and finally I said, GET ONE..I’ll have my husband watch the boys at the pool and I’ll sit with you at the bar!!!
I also had a friend, who loved Kahlua…she’s up on Boulder now teaching Yoga..wonder if she still drinks those. I would say I liked the Kahlua better than the taste of White Russians. Isn’t it fun, to be able to make your own!

I just tried the recipe, it came out wonderfully!!! It seems to have more of a coffee taste (obviously) than chocolate, but since I’m addicted to coffee, that works out well for me!! Thanks for the great recipe!!!

If you add a TBSP of Glycerin (found in drug stores under emollients - yeah!)to your Kahlua recipe, it will give it that smooth consistency. Enjoy!
