At 5:51 AM yesterday, the sun crossed the celestial equator, creating equal periods of night day and marking the official beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. The day is known as Alban Elfed, Autumn Equinox, Autumnal Equinox, Cornucopia, Feast of Avilon, Festival of Dionysus, Harvest Home, Harvest Tide, Mabon, Night of the Hunter, Second Harvest Festival, Wine Harvest, Witch’s Thanksgiving, and the first day of autumn. I like Witch’s Thanksgiving. And with this hay bale standing next to my house, it’s no surprise. Okay, is it just me or does this hay bale look malevolent? Possibly alive? A creepy, fuzzy monster? That’s going to come and GET ME?!
Happy Fall!
