Hi all

I am Kristina mom of 2 boys 10 and 7.  I think I am a farmer but unfortunately I live in town and can't even have chickens.  I fooled them though I have rabbits and many babies, a dog, fish, and a bird.  I have maxed out my yard, garden wise and have moved on to my front yard.  My neighbors are all old and just love me. LOL

I do rent land at a local farm so I intend to expand this year.  I believe in doing what I can for myself.  I am an avid baker and cook and love the science of canning.  I look forward to making friends and learning a bunch.

Hey all.  My name's Heather, I'm 31, and I live in Aurora, CO.  My family owns & operates a working cattle ranch in rural Colorado, and I am there 8-10 times a year helping out.  I have a very good working knowledge of horses, cattle, sheep, rabbits, chickens, peacocks, dogs & cats, and several types of local wildlife.  The ranch is at a pretty high altitude, so we never were able to do much gardening due to the short growing season, but I'm trying to remedy that deficit now by experimenting in my back yard.  I'm teaching myself the ins and outs of container gardening until such a time as I have a better gardening site than where I am now.

I got married about 6 months ago, and I'm trying to impress my hubby with homegrown food, homebaked bread, & I even plan to start canning this year.  We prefer to know where our food comes from, and to rely on others for our food as little as possible.

I work full time as a police officer, so my homecrafts are a big source of stress relief & comfort for me.  Looking forward to being here!

Hi,

My name is Sandy.  I live in W.V., but am from Summerville, S.C..  I have two kids 20 and 23.  I have been married 27 years.  My parents laugh at me and say they spent years trying to get off the farm and I have spent my time trying to get on it.  We have two pygmy goats that think they are dogs, they have such personality.  I have a flock of chickens, Buff orpingtons and Americaunas.  I get beautiful brown and green eggs from the sweetest girls.

We have apple, plum and peach trees along with blueberries, blackberries, and red raspberries.  I hope to plant some yellow raspberries this year.  They are so sweet, we have grapes too.  I live out, but also close to town.  I am truly blessed to have the best of both worlds at my disposal.

I am looking forward to chatting with everyone,

Sandy

Thank you,

I do can and freeze a lot.  My daughter takes some home with her too.  I take some of the fruit to a local farm stand to sell, but I think he keeps most of it for himself.  I am looking forward to spending time with every one.

Hello everyone.  I new here, and would love to tell you a little about myself.  I'm almost married 35 years, military mom of two (both deployed), and one out of the service and going to school.  I love weaving baskets, sewing, and just working with my hands.  I live in Carleton, MI.  I support the military men and women who protect us everyday.

I'm Susan.  I'm an almost 55 (Wow!!) married mom with 2 kids — 14 yo son and 10 yo daughter.  We live about 35 miles outside of D.C. in Virginia on 13 mostly wooded acres.  We garden, can, grow shiitake mushrooms, have 2 dogs, a cat and 1 duck (we had 7 at one time, but they've been picked off, one by one).  We are also beekeepers and bottle and sell honey under the name "The Boyd's and the Bees" — thus, my user name.  The beekeeping is a hobby — in the real world we run a plumbing and heating business from our home.  The economy has not been kind to us for the past 2 years, but we have survived and business is picking up.  Our self-sustaining, frugal lifestyle has helped alot and ideas from Suzanne's and other self-sustaining blogs and websites!  We hope to add a few chickens this spring!!  I also crochet and would love to learn to knit and make socks!!!

Welcome to the forum Susan!! This site has been a lifesaver for me as well…..I'm just learning self-sustaining and living a frugal lifestyle! AND I love it! The more people we have to bat around ideas with the better!

Would love to hear more about beekeeping! I've just started really enjoying honey, and I think I need bees — I go through a lot of it! LOL!!
