Hi – My name is Grace, age 66, and I am a newbie here. I am married to my high school sweetheart, (and still the love of my life, celebrating our 50th Wedding anniversary in April). Mother of 2 and grandmother of 5.

We live in the country on an acre in the foothills of the Gold Rush Country in California. We love it here and love exploring the little mountain towns in this historic region.

My hobbies are searching antique shops and thrift stores for 'treasures' and doing needlework, such as crochet, knitting, quilting and sewing.

I sell my creations on ebay and also have an Etsy shop. I previously owned my own quilt and needlework shop with my daughter, but now am enjoying retirement.

I look forward to sharing with all of you here, and especially love reading the blog.Wave

WaveHi all! I'm Heather in Reading PA. Very happily married for a year and a half to the most wonderful man in the world with a 6 month old son, who's the light of my life. We just bought our place in the country this spring. Not a lot of land (1/3 acre), but enough to do what I want (I think). I love to be in the kitchen- well, I love to cook and bake, cleaning up, not so much :) I crochet and am learning to knit. This year I'll be growing a garden and hopefully canning and getting chickens. Goats are on the list for next year.
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome again Grace!  And welcome to you too Angela and Heatherz!  Chickens are a hoot and very easy to deal with.  There's nothing like some hens clucking and muttering about whatever they are finding to make you want to take a deep breath and relax.  I swear if you have chickens, you won't ever need medicine for high blood pressure.

Hi, I'm Dianna, 31 and 10 years married. We have a 6 year old daughter. We live in Bakersfield, California in a normal house, mabey well get property when were old and senile (cost is crazy here in CA). We have 2 dogs now (as one got lost on Jan 1,2010..No, no luck finding her!!!!) three cats, one guinnea pig and one hampster. I have just began looking into food storage, canning and hopefully gardening. I am a teacher when I have a job (thanks to state budgets), this year I began teaching 2 months after school started so yippie! I am hoping and praying that I keep my job next year and can be perminant….Only if hired next year with in 2 moths of school begining. I carry a multi-subject credential (k-6 grade), masters degree in education, and finishing up a single subject credential (science/english 7-12 grade) eventually this year. It's a sad world when teachers need another field of work! Anyhow, I love this site and am going to use as much information I can find! Hobbies; I occasionally sew, make bread, watch movies, LOVE books, outdoor things, and hanging with friends.

Anyhow, this is me! HELLO Wavefellow chickens in the road!

Hi Dianna, I  grew up south of Bakersfield. My family moved north when I started high school, but I moved back to Bakersfield when I got married (1960), and our daughter was born there. It has certainly changed over the years. I now live in the Mother Lode area, near Sonora and Angels Camp.

My DH and I are heading back down to Bakersfield today and will be staying at the Doubletree hotel for a couple of nights. Small world, huh?

Anyway, Welcome to the board. I am new here too, but just know I am going to love it!

It is a small world, I know where Angels camp is, I vacationed there at the time share place thingie…the name escapes me..I'll remember later…Nice little place….Yah, I would love to live in the mountains with a farm but since hubbie works in LA, and I am a teacher in Lamont ( this year), and hubbie is prime income we need to stay put in a place where peopke can live decent lives without killing the bank! Have a great visit in Bako but eww its foggy and overcast, normal winter! But the sun peaked out just a little (2 hours) today…..Sun
