Years ago we had chickens. Lots of chickens. 300 chickens. When Y2K didn't happen we eventually got rid of them. I missed them, but didn't want a lot of big chickens around again, so I got some banties just to wander around my yard. I've got a Sebright hen, a (mystery) rooster and some chicks. The chicks are a Frizzle, four Silkies, a Cochin and a couple of guineas just to add to the noise.
I love to watch them.

I’m so happy for you. Nothing makes me feel all warm and cozy inside like a little fuzzy butt!

Your chickens are just so beautiful, my eggs are just hatching at the moment, and I mean right at this moment the beaks are out but not the est of there bodies, seeing yours has got me all excited about seeing mine when they hatch and go into the brooding box. Yours is set up well, I had shreaded hay in mine but an axpert told me to remove it and place newspaper on the bottom as it gets to messy with the chicks poop. Yours looks nice and clean do you have any problem with it.

This makes me want to go buy an incubator and hatch my own chickies.

Merilyn, the hay is working really well for me, seems to provide a firm footing foundation for the chicks, and it's handy because I've already got it here.
That “brooder” is a small metal water tub we use for cattle and horses. I just hung a light over it, checked it obsessively for about 36 hours to make sure I wasn't frying or freezing them and then just relaxed.
The little frizzle chick died, but everyone else seems very healthy. They have food with antibiotics in it and water with electrolytes. I usually put the antibiotics in the water, but all the feed at the farm store already had the antibiotics in it, and I didn't want to overdo it.
I don't know much at all about chicks, but they sure are fun to watch. The guineas are funny too.
