Oh - I didn't “do” that!  Suzanne moved a recipe over (it happened to be one I posted earlier today).  Gizmo moved her Whoopie Pies recipe - and I moved all the recipes I've posted.

Now - the rest of you need to move your recipes!  As I was scrolling through, I saw some I had forgotten.  I'm very excited about being able to “see” the recipe titles as I scroll through!

NO Bee, I'm talking about all those new recipes you posted the cheeseburger soup (come on cow, hurry to the butcher) and some others I cant wait to try! You are full of great ones. Youre the one who should be writing a cookbook! First dibs here!!!

Tonight we're having Burrito Pie and the fixin's.  I'm trying that pumpkin bundt cake recipe I posted under “Just Recipes” - so I'll have to report after if it's fit to eat.  I'm sticking pecans in mine.  Chocolate and Mexican would go together better, but I'm trying that recipe!  Besides, after Burrito Pie, you don't eat dessert right away…

How many of you eat dessert right after a meal?  (Please post tonight's dinner after! - I need ideas!)

As much as I make desserts, I don't usually eat it after dinner (though I do sometimes).  I tend to eat it as an afternoon snack, or even breakfast, LOL.  I try to have a dessert around as often as possible so the kids have something to snack on (and me, too!).  Right now, we have a pan of cracker candy (or part of a pan….).  I love cracker candy because it's so easy and fast and GOOD!

My recipe is here:

http://suzannemcminn.com/blog/2008/01/03/cracker-candy/

What I made this time was the toffee cracker candy, and I made it with those swirled chocolate/peanut butter chips, so they kinda have a Reeses flavor to them!  (I didn't put nuts on it this time.  You can leave the nuts off if your people don't like them, and you can use any flavor chocolate chips.)

I tried this - it's amazing how something so easy can be so GOOD!  Thanks for the recipe!

I can't eat dessert right after a meal - it tastes so much better to me the next morning!

I love cracker candy Suzanne! Dont' EVEN get me started - I ate that until I was sick. LOLL LOL LOL

I haven't eaten that well, today and I have pains in my stomach to prove it. Okay, I have to confess, they COULD be bloat pains, from PMS…but I'll blame it on the food. Why not, right GeorgiaZ? LOL

Could it have been the leftover pizza, or the Milky Way, or the little Debbie cakes, or the sweet tea, or hot tea , or small square of Lindt Bittersweet chocolate? sighhh LOL

In my medical opinion, which is worth much more than this walmart keyboard I am typing on, I am sure it must be PMS! Those foods you name are all major food groups, there for all very good for you. Much better for you than the pickle, mayo and cheeto sandwich I just had! Burp…

It's almost Thanksgiving, so this is a timely post. Our first Thanksgiving meal together almost ended our relationship. I made a HUGE dinner - turkey AND ham & all the side dishes. The plates weren't even cleared before Mike asked for dessert. I don't know about you, but after stuffing myself with dinner the very last thing I wanted to think about was dessert. Plus, I was washing dishes so we could sit and socialize around the table. In my family dessert comes after a couple of hours of groaning with full stomachs. DESSERT! How could he even ask!

OMG…now THAT's a sandwhich Georgiaz!!! LOL

I am doing much better today! Still have PMS…had a few cheese/Jalepeno NACHOS  for breakfast wtih ONE little Debbie yellow/chocolate cake and two pieces of  buttered toast with hot tea - had I remembered the new strawberry jam I have, I would have had jam on that buttered toast.

Then, for lunch, I had a small Taco salad and mac and cheese. LOL

Jayne - where are you going/where are you?  I missed the post about where - but can tell you're somewhere!

I'm in Clearwater Florida.  I had to come down here for some meetings for school.  OMG! I had the best omelet for breakfast this morning and lunch was a wood grilled cheeseburger!  OMY!  I don't know what dinner will bring.  Not going to be my decision, I'm going with the flow.

I'll be back home Sunday.

As far as desserts go, we don't eat them til later in the evening on Thanksgiving.  Our dessert with the meal is Jello cubes.  It's crazy, but we sit around the table talking and eating them.  It always kept the kids at the table when they were little, so we could just talk, now they still want to do that!

I think those Jello cubes are an excellent idea!  I wonder if they'd entertain my mother?

After preparing and eating a huge meal, she jumps up like she is electrocuted and clears the table (and then, feeling like a stuffed animal, I must get up and help) and then she starts cutting pies and cakes and passing them out immediately!  I've NEVER been able to enjoy (and I really like to enjoy it) dessert directly after a meal.  I have learned, however, that if I'm going to get dessert - that I need to take my helping and hide it before it's gone.  So I do.  I'm 49 years old and hiding my dessert.  What does that say about me?

When I have any meal at my house - dessert (if there is dessert) is served a long while after a meal with coffee.  I like to enjoy my food and my guests - and dishes can wait until I'm ready.  The only thing I do after a meal is put the food away.

Speaking of which - my Grannie would cover her leftovers with a “spread.”  I still have her spread - it is made out of a red and white feed sack.  She fringed the edges.  This food would sit out all afternoon - in a very hot and humid environment - and we'd eat it later that day.  We didn't get sick.  While I wouldn't do that now, I really think we've de-germed ourselves to death.  We've made it so we cannot handle any bacteria.

Back to my main reason for writing this - really, those Jello cubes are a great idea!

Jayne…enjoy all that wonderful food and Clearwater! I love that jelllo cube idea too…now there's an idea to keep my husband at the table!

Bee, I agree. My mother used to leave a burger on the stove all evening until I got in…or dad left sausage patties out, all am, after cooked…things like that…we never died or got sick! We live in very hot and humid weather too! So, I wonder about all that degerming too. My sister in law came from Los Angeles and she's a nurse and she was germ phobic - I have another nurse friend that is also - anyway…before we could even get our drive through McDonald's fries eaten - my sister in law was passing around Purrell, for us all to clean our hands. Good grief. The friend was phobic too about not eating until she cleaned her hands…I said “you just dirtied them again, coming out of the bathroom, touching the door handle” LOL I would freak her out with things like that. LOL

I guess I can eat dessert after holiday meals because we always did…once my sister in law saw me eating a cookie and said “how can you eat that after that big meal”?! Because I am one of those who cold easily eat DESSERT FIRST. LOL But, I too think it is BETTER to wait…until you can enjoy and be gezellig.

Today is Chick Fil A….eating out…and maybe DQ ice cream after…

When I was young we would come to WV to visit in the summer. All the relatives wanted to see the cousins from California, so at least once they would all get together and have a potluck at the farm. After we finished eating the aunts would spread a white tablecloth over all the dishes still on the table. Nothing was taken off the table and put into the refrigerator. Several hours later, after dinner had settled, you would find people going back to the table and peeking under the tablecloth to nibble. Soon the tablecloth would come off, and everyone would come back to the table for seconds. No one ever got sick from leaving the food out in 90 degree heat. I suppose in past years there really wasn't a choice about refrigerating leftovers. There was no refrigerator. Things could be kept cool in the root cellar or the spring house, but nothing went to waste. Actually quite a bit went to 'waist' and when we couldn't hold another bite the leftovers went to the chickens or the pigs.
