Too far for me, I would have starved so I had chicken strips and butternut squash with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon and a salad.

ok, so I had to nurse a stomach ache lastnight because I ate the whold dang loaf of bread topped with Iowadeb's crockpot applebutter I made!!! wow…
note: I have this really EXPENSIVE loaf pan from Williams Sonoma I use for meatloaf…then yesterday morning I went to Wal mart and bought a $4.57 glass loaf pan that Suzanne claims is best for bread…so I tried my own experiment when I halved the dough….and by golly ….the glass pan dough rose up (not as high as I wanted…it was above the rim but nothing like Suzanne's photo) and the wimpy expensive pan did practically NOTHING! I couldn't believe it…so I am making more today and gonna try to let the 2nd rise time go longer …I had to do the oven trick for the rising time…I am convinced our altitude and air conditioning has something to do with this rising business…..are maybe its just I am too anxious and do not give it more time….I am also going to make the apple butter coffee cake today too!!! MMMMMMMMMMMMM….you know…I am putting on fat for the winter…gotta keep warm! ahhaaa

Woke up with a bad headache, like sinus…so not really hungry today…but baked chicken, and had refried beans over rice (with Queso cheese in them) and green beans…

Mike and I are the proud owners of a flock of sheep. I wanted a ewe, and maybe a lamb. Instead last spring we came home with 11 sheep - a ram, 2 spring lambs (one male and one female) and 8 ewes.

Last month we put one of the ewes and the ram-lamb in the freezer. The lamb is related to some of the ewes, and he was beginning to be old enough to give them the eye. The ewe was injured by a neighbor's rottweiler, and although she healed I was afraid she would be too unsteady to have a lamb this spring. We knew the ram-lamb would be dinner so we nicknamed him “Lambchop” to remind me not to get too attached to him.
Well, tonight Lambchop's lambchops went well with a red-wine reduction, garlic mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. The potatoes, garlic and beans came from the garden. The lamb came from our pasture. Our first completely home raised meal. Except for the wine.

WOW! How cool is that! You’re a shepherd! How I long for some country land that I can cover in animals. And have all day long to care for them…my dreams.

That's so cool about the home raised meal. Now all you need is some grape vines for your wine!

Planting grapevines, berry vines, and fruit trees are projects on the agenda for next spring. We only moved to our farm in January of 2008 so we weren't prepared to get them in the ground this year. I just checked the nursery where I want to get my fruit trees, and they have opened for orders for 2009 trees. One of the varieties I wanted is already sold out! I'm going to get on the stick tonight and finalize my order before everything is snapped up.
Here's a photo of one view from our hilltop farm. That's Mike walking toward our equipment shed.

And a view from my front yard toward the river where the property ends.

Today we were too busy with errands for me to get dinner done before I had to get to work (I telecommute, but have to log in at 6:45pm) so I showed my 16 yr old daughter what ingredients we had left (almost shopping day) and told her she could do what she wanted. She cooked sliced turkey kielbasa with onions and apple slices in a pomegranate balsamic vinegar and brown sugar sauce that carmelised the onions perfectly. Then she served that over spinach noodles and whole wheat noodles, with steamed broccoli and whole grain dinner rolls. OMG it was heavenly!

She either learned to cook from her talented mom, or she's gone to culinary school. My kind of girl! My son is 38 and a bachelor. He can cook enough so he doesn't starve, but he's not very creative. He grew up watching me cook, and I wish he HAD picked up the creative gene from me. He tells me cooking the same thing every night (chicken or fish with green beans) helps him stay on a diet. He likes the menu, he doesn't think it's boring, and he's not tempted to overeat because there are too many good choices on the table.

Grilled pot roast sandwiches.
Caramelize sliced vidalia onions and add to pot roast and shredded cheese and put into a flour tortilla. Fold up all four sides and grill till browned and crisp.
Serve with macaroni and cheese and green salad with strawberries and walnuts.

My stepdaughters will be with us this weekend and the youngest loves to cook so tonight we are having make your own pizza night. I picked up some pizza dough at Trader Joe's. We'll divide it up so everyone gets an individual pie. I've got red sauce and meaty toppings for DS and DH. DD and the older DSD (dear stepdaughter) and I love pesto pizza with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes and goat cheese. The youngest DSD loves everything on her pizza…onions, green peppers and mushrooms. She will help me chop and grate to get everything ready.
Tomorrow night is green chile stew and cornbread because the DSD's love soup

I am kind of all over the place today, in my eating…I have had a “little of this and a little of that”. LOL
I made Polka Keilbasa and green beans for my husband, before he went to work - that was brunch, today, with HIS hours.
When he gets in later..he'll have bean burritoes and homemade yogurt with fresh blueberries and honey. I am full after my outing today…eating this and that…so I am done. Sipping hot decaf tea right now…
I burned my first batch of yogurt this am….wasted a half gallon of milk. LOL This show on Paris was coming on…DH says “you've got time, come watch”…I thought I had time too, until I heard it boil over the pan…had to start all over. It was supposed to heat up to 185-190….it was over 200. LOL
