Just curious, what do you charge for your eggs??
There was a girl there today with fresh organic eggs, but her sign said “for pet food only”. She said she has to put that out by Florida statute because Florida already has too many egg producers. But she assured me they were alright for human consumption, yada yada the law..
But she wanted $5 a dozen!???!!!! Seriously??
Just curious what ya'll charge. I need to find an egg person.

I get 2.50 for mine, 3.50 for a 18 pack. It would be worth your drive, dont you think?

My sister gets $2/dozen here. $5 is a little bit crazy, I would think, no matter how organic!! Was she selling any?

We sell ours for between $2.50 for the jumbo/super jumbo size (the ones that are the size of bowling balls!) down to $1.50 for a dozen medium eggs (the ones our new pullets have just started laying.) I sell out so fast I hardly have time to get them out of the cooler and on the table. I have people call me at home to put some aside for them — sometimes our whole prodution is spoken for before the market starts. We just got over 3 dozen new pullets, a dozen are already producing, and the rest are about 14 weeks old so they won't be long now. We also have over a dozen chicks just hatched in the last two weeks — they will produce eggs by spring!
We have to have an egg seller's permit to sell eggs at the market, and with the permit I can even sell to restaurants and stores. There is a country type store in Spencer that will buy them for $1.50 (jumbo) and $1.25 for all the others if we ever get into a position where we have too many eggs. (Too many eggs? Wouldn't that be nice right about now.)
I could sell them for more in Charleston, but who wants to go 55 miles to make an extra buck or two a dozen. Around here many people have their own chickens so fresh farm eggs aren't a novelty. Ours are TOTALLY free range, and the only thing we feed them besides what they forage is cracked corn. Can't get much more natural than that.

Wonder if I could send you some – flat rate box? I have my own egg cartons with labels I designed that contain all the USDA required information. I also sort the eggs by size (the size – jumbo, XL, etc. are determined by the number of ounces per dozen eggs.) They have to be labeled ungraded unless you have a state inspector hold a candle to the eggs, check them for cracks… The big guys can do that.

Doesnt it sound like a lot of fuss over just a little egg? As long as I got em, I dont care. But if I paid 5.00 for them, they better be ostritch eggs!

The definition of a jumbo egg is at least 30 ounces per dozen. That is an average egg weight of 2.5 ounces per egg (some can weigh more or less, but the total dozen must weigh at least 30 ounces.) I have egg layers that routinely give me 4 ounce eggs, and it's not unusual for me to have a 40 ounce dozen eggs. They aren't ostrich eggs, but they do look like bowling balls compared to a regular large size egg.

Goodness, even here, where food prices are more expensive free-range organic eggs are only $3.50 for a dozen large eggs.
