My blog deals more with landscaping but I feature design issues real prominently and I also have information about such things as the Portland, Oregon Chinese Garden (which I helped build as the main American on it), and other famous Gardens I have visited and bloggged about.If you like Rhododendrons, check out the “Category” list to the right of my home page and go to Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. I think I have about 5 posts realtive to that gorgeous spot.
I vacillate in the blog – between showing completed works of gardens, most of which I have installed, and instructing people on what is involved from a very practical standpoint in doing such things as making walls or laying down large paver patios, to designing and constructing container gardens. I speak a lot about irrigation and a category food gardeners might be smart to pay more attention to – “Drip Irrigation.” Imagine leaving town for a week and knowing your garden was getting wet, lol. They (drip systems) do hanging basklets as well and it is surprisngly cheap and easy to install.

That's beautiful, Steve! I'm always hoping one of these years I will get to create a permanent herb garden. I think they are so cool. I want one bad!

I have done dumber things. I am in Louisville, for the record, so a trip is not out of the question. Early Spring would be the time. You free? That way you can save up.

I found a very informative article at Mother Earth News. She took 100 sq ft of her lawn (20'x5' that no longer needs to be mowed) and grew $700 worth of food!!!! She kept meticulous records to prove this to herself. Her Website has pictures of the Edible Landscape trial she did and her records. You can download the excel sheet for your own records.
I do believe there is a section of lawn that won't be here next year. Eating is more important than a beautiful lawn, IMO, but this is beautiful and will only add to a landscape!

I've always mixed flowers and vegetables in my gardens, it's so much nicer to work in either when they're tumbled together, but there's no WAY I could pretend to keep up with Rosalind Creasy! That sure is interesting, I've often thought too much lawn was a waste of time and effort, not to mention water and compost!!! I wish my yard weren't so shady.

I just read that article too, CindyP. It was amazing how much food she grew in such a small space!
I hope to attend a class in MO with "Len" this spring. He has a system for raised bed gardening that looks interesting.

I like that site, johnzegirl………..she had gardening chores by the month!!! and it happens it's around about my zone…….this is what I need help with! I really need to start my own list as I learn, would probably help in future years!
