Did anyone knit gifts for Christmas presents this year? I seem to be stuck on knitting cowls and fingerless mittens. Love them and they are quick knits.

I do great flat knitting but did not do anything this year. I think I'm bored with flat but afraid to try anything with a shape. I'm working on an eyeglass case that will be felted.

I crochet. I've made afghans, scarves, slippers, pot holders. dish towel holders (one's a black and white chicken) with matching refirgerator magnets, baby dolls, baby doll clothes and accessories, etc. My homemade gifts this yr were food gifts and Christmas cards.

Life is too important to be taken too seriously.

The year my son was seven (he's 38 now!) I decided to knit him a sweater for Christmas. I actually do know how to knit, although it's been years since I have. Anyway, I asked him for his favorite color, without telling him why I wanted to know. His favortie color? ORANGE. Orange! So I knitted him a cable knit sweater, with hat and mittens to match. I couldn't help myself – I trimmed everything in a chocolate brown. It fit him, he liked it, but he said he wished I had made it ALL orange.

Leah, the fingerless gloves are cute, if I do say so myself! I taught myself to knit about 6 years ago. Now I can do cables, lace, socks. You name it. I just google it and try it! I like to keep learning new knitting techniques.

Dishclothes are wonderful gifts! I love them. So much nicer than store bought ones.

If you felt things, you want to use a zippered pillowcase cover, not a mesh bag. The mesh will let some of the fuzz through and it can ruin your washing machine.

Right now I'm working on knitting a pair of fingerless gloves for our oldest for Christmas.  I've got the left glove finished and will start on the right glove this evening.  I'm using this pattern:

And this afternoon, I'm starting on a toque for our son.  He's going off to college next year (back to Canada) and will need it to keep warm come next fall/winter.  I work on his gifts during the day when he's at school and then work on other gifts in the evening when he's home.  I just have to remember to hide whatever I'm working on and get everything put away before he gets home from school.

Mo, those gloves are gorgeous…….a little much for me it looks like, maybe not, but I've have to sit down and concentrate at the least!  I praise anyone that does a knitting/crochet project that takes more than an hour……my ADD takes over and it goes into the UFO pile!!

Actually Cindy, if you know how to knit in the round or would like to give it a try…  you'll be able to knit these gloves. 

The pattern may look difficult but it's not really.  It's just a repeating pattern done over 6 stitches and is created by yarn over then knit two together for the right hand glove and yarn over slip 2 sts as if to knit and then knit those together for the left glove. 

Her instructions are very easy to follow and there's a glossary available for any stitches you might not be familiar with. 

The only thing I'm going to change when I knit the second glove is to put the stitches for the thumb on a safety pin to hold them while I work the palm rather than putting them on waste yarn like she suggests.  That will make it easier to transfer those stitches back to the needles when it's time to work the thumb.

But they will take more than an hour.   I find having a Christmas deadline is a great motivator for keeping at a project until it's finished. Yes

I hadn't knitted in the round for years, but it only took a bit to pick it up again.  You already know how to knit… so once you get the knack for holding the needles, I'm sure you'll be able to manage.

HelloI love to knit. I raise Angora goats. Does anyone have a knited hat pattern that knits the hat in a double thickness? Ive looked all around and can not find this pattern. Its knitted using circular nedles, that much I do remember! Thank YouHappy Flower

Hello Angela,

I knit one of these hats for my husband a few years ago.  I'll see if I can find the pattern I used, but basically you knit one hat from the brim to the top decreasing for the last few inches.  Then you pick up stitches along the cast on edge and knit a second hat exactly as you did the first one.  Once you've finished, weave in your ends and slide the second hat up inside the first.

Thanks Mo olelo I liked that pattern so much I got some DPNS and learned to use them. I now have a pretty pair of bright pink fingerless gloves thanks to your pattern link and encouragement. They have some mistakes and some split yarn but I'm happy with them,LOL

Angela P Try going to knittingdailytv.com they have a reversible hat pattern that is double thickness on show 303.

 I bet it is fun raising Angora goats. I think they are so cute.
