Right now I'm working on knitting a pair of fingerless gloves for our oldest for Christmas.  I've got the left glove finished and will start on the right glove this evening.  I'm using this pattern:

And this afternoon, I'm starting on a toque for our son.  He's going off to college next year (back to Canada) and will need it to keep warm come next fall/winter.  I work on his gifts during the day when he's at school and then work on other gifts in the evening when he's home.  I just have to remember to hide whatever I'm working on and get everything put away before he gets home from school.

Actually Cindy, if you know how to knit in the round or would like to give it a try…  you'll be able to knit these gloves. 

The pattern may look difficult but it's not really.  It's just a repeating pattern done over 6 stitches and is created by yarn over then knit two together for the right hand glove and yarn over slip 2 sts as if to knit and then knit those together for the left glove. 

Her instructions are very easy to follow and there's a glossary available for any stitches you might not be familiar with. 

The only thing I'm going to change when I knit the second glove is to put the stitches for the thumb on a safety pin to hold them while I work the palm rather than putting them on waste yarn like she suggests.  That will make it easier to transfer those stitches back to the needles when it's time to work the thumb.

But they will take more than an hour.   I find having a Christmas deadline is a great motivator for keeping at a project until it's finished.

I hadn't knitted in the round for years, but it only took a bit to pick it up again.  You already know how to knit… so once you get the knack for holding the needles, I'm sure you'll be able to manage.

I knit one of these hats for my husband a few years ago.  I'll see if I can find the pattern I used, but basically you knit one hat from the brim to the top decreasing for the last few inches.  Then you pick up stitches along the cast on edge and knit a second hat exactly as you did the first one.  Once you've finished, weave in your ends and slide the second hat up inside the first.
