Fall is my favorite time of year for decorating–I love setting out straw bales with pumpkins and gourds and little scarecrows. My cousins always make a foddershock. I'd like to learn how to make those, too. What are some of your favorite ways to decorate for fall? I'd love some new ideas!

I keep my outside decorating natural and simple. I use pumpkins and mums and let the changing leaves do the rest!
Inside, I burn fall scented candles — and I start doing this when school starts. My favorite now is Mulled Cider by Tyler Candle Company. It makes the entire house smell wonderful, makes me think of crisp fall air (even though we're still broiling here in Texas), inspires me to bake and plan fall meals and get togethers.
By the end of September, I have started sprinkling my vintage Halloween decorations around the house. Each year I search for another goodie! I place bowls of fall candy around — and since I've always thought of them as "decorations" I stay out of them! (To this day, my 24 year old asks if he may have a "decoration" — because that's what I told the kids they were when they were little, and they always asked before they ate a decoration!) I bring nature inside with fall arrangements made with woodsy items.
This is my favorite season. I think of hayrides, cookouts, pumpkin carving parties, soups, stews, festivals. So, I keep the decorating simple. The outside decorating I do carries me through Thanksgiving — leaving me more time for baking, cooking and fun with family and friends.

It's my favorite time to decorate also! As soon as I start seeing the yellow of the bittersweet, I'm at the soccer fields in town cutting vines like a crazy person! Since it's invasive and can kill trees, nobody minds that I'm cutting it. I keep it as an outside decoration because of our two cats and two dogs, plus I add sweet annie from my garden. The two together make a great fall decoration, and the sweet annie smells realy great. I replace my summer red geraniums with mums and whatever else I find on nature walks, plus put mums into an antique horse drawn sleigh we have in the front yard. Usually I add a homemade scarecrow as the sleigh "driver" and a few rusty bells.
Most of the time I go waaaay overboard, but it's great fun!

I Love fall and of all the seasons I miss having, Fall is the ONE! Since I'm in Florida and we don't have leaves that turn, I use leaves and pumpkins all through my house to decorate! I miss the cool, crisp mornings, sweater weather and the smell of the burning leaves. I also use candles to recreate that here.

Mine is rather simple, as I just put out some gourds or mini pumpkins and a display on the dining table – a Cornucopia…some little ghost, scarey candles for Halloween…my ceramic pumpkin…
OH, here's an idea my mom taught me. You know the ceramic pumpkin you put out for Halloween? With that big cut out face? Just turn it around to the other side, to use for Thanksgiving! (so it just looks like a plain pumpkin).
I always have a candy jar full of candy for any holiday – like candy corn for Halloween. I like to also buy the foil Peppermint Patties, because they put the foil colors out for each season, like gold for Halloween, green/silver/red for Christmas….
You can also fill jars with food colored water, for decoration – like orange…(got that off the Sandra Lee show)…and I also change placemats/tablecloth to reflect the Harvest season…holiday season. Sometimes I do a wreath on the front door. I put something on the mantle/fireplace hearth…just to give little touches all around.

I like to gather what everybody calls weeds and fix arrangements of these mixed with odds and end cuttings from flowering plants and bushes in my yard.

I just went by Hobby Lobby this evening and picked up two hanging Welcome signs for my door at work. One is leaves, one is pumpkins, spelling out "Welcome". I'll use one for October and one in November.
I also splurged on some garland. It was half price! It's full of leaves, gourds, berries, all in fall color splendor. With my pumpkins I already have, I'll be ready for fall!

Deep south zone 10 does not allow for changes of color in leaves which my
heart craves….so the transformation takes place inside. My family knows i do
the fall up real big…i have a scarecrow form that is dressed and go to feed store
for bale of hay…strange among the lush tropical plantings in our yard…but nice!
Inside the garlands, leaves, branches, turkeys, pumpkins make the house seem
like fall is in the air…just have to turn up the air conditioner to chill the air! Oh it
would be great to see the leaves change colors.

I have no idea. I drive by Garden Ridge and Hobby Lobby every day so I had to stop when Sept arrived. I went up and down the isles and drank it all in. I put pumpkins out on the front porch and fall ceramic stuf around the house. i redecorate my dinning table too, add fal flowers and i have a scented electric pot and i put fall scents in it. i love it. i have – that is another sewing project – fall and christmas fabric holders for the tall boxed kleenex boxes too. i have milk glass vases so they do well for fal and christmas flowers. love it – happy fall

Georgia: I don't think it's too early at all to start decorating outside. I have Mums and pumpkins on my front porch now. I have several decorative wooden stakes that I will be adding to the flower beds as soon as I find time. And will probably start working on small ghosts and witches for a small tree in the front yard for October.

I haven't started yet… We are trying to sell our house, and so I have to keep it simple. But I really want to put out my fall basket in the kitchen and probably update the candles on the mantle. I love this time of year. If you need some inspiration, The Inspired Room had a Fall Nesting Week last week I believe – LOTS of inspiration there….
And sorry if I'm not supposed to mention somewhere else, please delete it.

Even though it was still 93 degrees today, I am anxiously awaiting fall. So I decided to drag out my little bits of decor and decorate my office, since I spend most of my time here anyway. I put up my fall garland and little scarcrows, tiny gourd pumpkins and sunflowers. Looks pretty. I just may do something at home too. I still want one of those foddershock thingys though!

Most people try to hard to make arrangments look perfect. Natural is better. Nature doesnt place flowers and greenery in a certain way, they just grow where the seeds fall. And they look great. When I am teaching floral arranging (owned flower shops for 30 years) I always told people to start with the greenery. Whether it is in a vase or a basket or something to hang on a door. The green works as a base to hold anything else you want to put in it. Then the flowers or sticks or feathers or whatever, will stay where you put it. Make some long and some short and some medium. Let it flow, if you are having fun, it will show. If it is stressing you out it too will show. So just play with it and have some fun.
