Leah, the future DIL sounds very sweet, now if I could get my sons out and about, maybe they would meet some very sweet girls and I'd have a DIL and just maybe one day grands! Hope they get moving on this project soon because I would love to be able to play with grands before I'm too old.

My sons are 30 and 39, everytime I start about girlfriends, marriage or grands, they get me a puppy. I have 3 now and don't want another one, so I have shut up trying to talk to them. It's a taboo subject. Neither has ever married and neither has a current girlfriend. Maybe they will be like my brother Don, who never married until he turned 50. Oh, well if I can get Girlie out of HS and thru college——–

Well if it's any consolation, hubby married me when he was 30! His mom thought he'd never settle down.

I just got a great deal!!! On JoAnns website. I ordered a roll of quilt batting 48"x50 yards and paid with shipping and the online coupon offered on the front page the total price was $38.91!
That will make it .98 per baby quilt that is 45x45. Or 1.98 for a regular size quilt.

Its called Kodel and I know nothing about it. I got it for mom to do her baby quilts with so she wants it thin. But the Warm & Natural is also on sale and they have it by the bolt too.

Warm and Natural is my personal favorite, for the price. Or wool. There are superior products out there, but they are more expensive than I like to pay. Some of the pricier ones are less flexible, which is just not an option for me.
I use Warm and Natural for almost everything. You can leave up to 10" in between lines of quilting.

I don't know much about batting, but my sister has used white fleece in the last couple of quilts. Any thoughts on that? She handquilts if that makes a difference.

I use Warm and Natural, or Comfy Cotton. I hand quilt and machine quilt. I find poly batting looses it's loft over time, and isn't as warm.
Georgia, that is a rockin' good deal, you go girl.

Yeah she saves me a lot of money when it comes to hair.Re: being able to play with grandchildren as we age…when they get old enough and want to get on your lap, just put your hands under their arms and tell them to "jump!" That's what I do with my little nieces…Ha!

Leah, my future DIL is so multi talented also. I told Felicia that she really needs to try out for American Idol. She sings that well. Has such a voice range, write her own songs, plays piano, guitar and several instruments. But the best thing is that scrapbooking talent! LOL! It gives us something to do together.

Every quilter has their own bias about batting. It's a very personal thing, in my experience. It very much depends on use, what feels right to the quilter, and a bunch of other stuff. There are no rights or wrongs. Maybe that's why there are so many varieties?
The versatility of Warm & Natural works very well for the kinds of things I make. It shrinks nicely and doesn't beard through a well used quilt. It's not as easy to hand quilt as either wool or poly. Many hand quilters will get a blend so that they have the characteristics of cotton with the ease of quilting the synthetic.
For my own projects, the fleece would have too much loft. But it would be wonderful in baby quilts, for instance, and for anything where the quilter wants a lot of durability, stability, and some loft. And it would be really warm, right?

Warm & Natural is my favorite too – however, it isn't easy to hand quilt. I'm working on a baby quilt for a “baby” that's almost 13…it's just the quilting that has held me up all these years. It's almost finished – and now promised to my daughter…she loves the colors!

Oooh, oooh, oooh! Just remembered my best deal last year!
Elder-Beerman was having a sale around December 1. Again. (I usually don't pay much attention. They seem to have some sale going any day of the week!)
What caught my eye was a waffle iron. A nice round Oster with temp settings, several lights to indicate readiness, etc. $60 MSR. On sale for about $19. And an additional 20% off for seniors using the charge card. We'd been looking for a round one for some time, having already proven that a square one would have to defy the laws of physics to heat evenly.
I had to be in the neighborhood for something else the day before the sale started, so I wandered in to check out the product. On the way, I glanced through the "Old Country Roses" display. A very helpful salesman came to assist. We had a grand time with his scanner gun. It turned out that all the merchandise was clearanced! I got a teapot set (only wanted the teapot, but the set was less than half the price of the individual teapot. Duh!), an odd cup and saucer (clearanced, of course, for less than $10), and 2 waffle irons, tax, title and carrying charge for $124! It was as if I bought the 2 waffle irons at regular price and got the other stuff free!
The guy helping me turned out to be the department manager and he decided that he should just give me the sale prices the day before rather than having to find a place to store the stuff and me drive back the next day for it.
Yes, we plan to use both waffle irons at home. When you are making waffles, do you really want to serve one at a time??? We tried it out and it was great. We got to have two people munching on hot waffles at a sitting.
Oh, and the teapot set turned out to be the large set rather than the smaller teapot on display for individual sale. So, what was already a phenomenal deal was even better!

I was at WM yesterday, and they STILL HAD CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS!! I got packs of 15 gold glass bulbs for 30 cents!!! I'm going to put them in vinegar to take the gold off, so I have clear bulbs to decorate for next year!! I can't even find them that cheap at thrift stores!!

You can put gold glass bulbs in vinegar and the paint will come off???? I am going to have to try that one. And Pete – you beat all you know that!!!! I am sure all the women here are envious of your wife to have a husband like you who is in tune with so many things!!!!! I dont know any man who would know what Country Roses was much less even glance its way not to mention the waffle iron thing – unreal. Can we clone you?
