While out gathering supplies for the dough enhancer, I found a canning funnel at Kroger for $.99. Since both mine are way past their prime, I was happy to acquire a new, blue plastic one that is Made in the USA.

I bought four pairs of shoes at a Shoe Sensation a few days ago. They were marked down quite a bit and I got another 60 percent off of the marked down price. They turned out to be $8.00 a pair. All really good brands and are so comfortable. My usual shoe buys are two pair of Reeboks a year since I wear them to work. So this was a huge purchase for me at a great price.

I haven't gotten any good buys lately, but I really really need to find some fabric outlets. Does anyone know of any in SC, NC or GA?? I'm concerned that since Wmart is closing its fabric depts and almost all of the textile plants are gone, we will have to pay premium prices for fabric. I know that most of the time you "get what you pay for", I really love to save money and $6.00 to $8.00 a yard is way too much for my budget.

JeannieB, fabric.com is a pretty good place to get good prices on fabric.
There is a huge outlet store west of Charlotte. I haven't been there for years, so don't know if it is still good. Folks from around here used to make trips there, spend the night, and still saved money on fabric!
If you have a quilt guild near you, get to know them. Quilters know where ALL the good deals are! (I once found some spectacular deals at a little hardware store in Davis WV. It was apparently a his & hers store – hardware on one side, craft materials of all manner on the other! We found the battery we had stopped for originally, but also left with some clearance fabric…)

Pete, I bet the outlet near Charlotte is the one in Monroe, it's still there and I went last year. They do have good deals, its about an hour or so from me. Thats a great idea about the quilt guilds, I'll check them out. Thanks!!

Great ideas and you are so resourceful for a guy too – i have that blue funnel and love it. I use it for all sorts of things too.
I have a few WM around me who still have fabric. They did close a lot. when I heard they were last yr, I went to 8 WM and got fabric. Now many of them are closed. they say it cost to omuch to have a person there all the time and they need the floor space for more selling items. will do NO GOOd AT ALL TO CALL ANYONE – I tried. they dont care. we have Hancock's and JoAnne, Hobby Lobby – but they are all very very high. The quitl shops are even higher. Good luck though.
And the shoes too what a buy – wow. good job.

Pete, how did you wind up in Davis,WV? I lived there for 10+ years…Nobody knows where Davis is…much less visits. Were you a tourist? It is beautiful there and the Ace Hardware has always been diversified.
If anyone gets to Maine…I have lots of fabric really cheap. The same ones that are in JoAnnes–thimbleberries, debbie mumm… for 2.99/yd. I try to stay out of that department. If its the last 2-3 yds of anything…its considered a remnant and is half price. I am Birdi and I am a fabriholic!! lol

Me too!!! Wow 2.99 a yrd that is great for that fabric!!! Before WM closed some of the many stores I went to – I got great deals for 1.00 and 2.00. I got some really nice canvas 54 inch wide for 1.00 a yrd in colors and some with dog paw prints on them too. I only have 3 book cases full now. GeorgiaZ is also an admitted fabriholic. I remember when patterns use to cost 1.25 or under and now – honestly with clothes cheaper in some cases and sales – it does not pay to sew. i have not made clothes, wedding gowns, ball gowns in some yrs and cant see how making it would be cheaper at all. I cant imaging paying 15-17 for a piece of paper pattern. the few I have gotten, craft ones are on sale at Hobby Lobby for 1.00 – once a yr.

I found a fabric outlet in Fancy Gap, VA, its on I85 just north of the NC state line. I got bias binding for 19cent a yard, rickrac for 10 cent a yard, and some very good quality thread (150 yds) for 15 cent a spool. It's about 1 and 1/2 hrs from me, I plan to go back this spring.

Those still looking for deals can even find them in the most upscale quilt shops. Just ask about clearance fabrics. I got many good deals (less than $3/yd) at Kaye England's shops in and near Indianapolis on her first run fabrics, just because she wanted to clear it out for the newer lines. Hers and others as well.
