Actually we only have 3 acres but it sure seems a long way off when I am walking to the back end of it…LOL
We are cleaning brush from the sides. Those awful popcorn trees have taken over and they need to come out of there. We have piles of brush sitting everywhere waiting to be burned. Perhaps next weekend it will be dry enough without a hard wind and we can burn.
So…if you don't hear from me today call out the national guard…I can get lost in those woods…or fall in a mud hole and not be able to get up…hahahahahaha

What are popcorn trees? I have never heard of anything referred to that! Must be horrible though if you are forewarning us to call the national guard!

Made it back!
Popcorn trees are trees imported from china back in the 1700's. Also called Chinese Tallows, they are invasive and take over land very quickly. I totally detest them, but they are the only trees around here that show season color change. They were imported for ornamental trees and they produced oils from the seeds. When they bloom and have seed pods it looks just like popped corn. They can be pretty but are so invasive it is best to take them out before they grow big.
It is muddy back there and I bogged up to the knees in a couple places.

Sounds like us Deb…we have those mud holes that can suck you in and hang on for dear life! Those Popcorn trees sound pretty neat but I'm sure if I had to deal with them I wouldn't like them either. We have junk all over on this farm we bought in June that people have just left since 1947…you name it ..it's here along with a bunch of hospital beds (local hospital shut down YEARS ago) and old chicken feeders and waterers (it was a poultry operatioin in the 60's). The barn that we want to fix up before it falls down is packed to the rafters with junk…and not the kind you'd love to find…just JUNK! Good luck cleaning up your brush…we just burned ours a while ago but there's another already started. Seems that never ends on an acreage! Have fun! ps..we call our back area the 'back 40' and we also have the 'south fork'. (pitchfork!)
