Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends.

Okay, here's what you're supposed to do, and try not to be a SCROOGE!!!

Just copy this entire thing and paste into “reply to topic.”  Change all the

answers so that they apply to you…(hit quote and reply, copy, click cancel,

click “reply to topic,” click paste - and then you'll be able to erase my answers

and type in your answers).

 1.  Wrapping paper or gift bags?   wrapping paper

 2.  Real tree or Artificial?   I prefer both

 3.  When do you put up the tree?   artificial ones start going up the day

after Thanksgiving, the real one about a week and a half before Christmas

 4.  When do you take the tree down?   artificial ones, New Year's Day -

real one comes down the day after Christmas

 5.  Do you like eggnog?   I do if it contains massive quantities of rum…

 6.  Favorite gift received as a child?   my Raggedy Ann (I still have her,

she still has her ratty bloomers, and she has very little hair - is was/is loved!)

 7.  Hardest person to buy for?   that would be my mother

 8.  Easiest person to buy for?   my daughter

 9.  Do you have a nativity scene?   yes

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?   mail, I love sending cards

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?   My mother decided to buy me

clothes one year.  While my mother (traditional) has excellent taste, she doesn't

have my taste (unconventional).  Everything was black, wool, and plaid!  I

tried hard not to show my disappointment, but even my dad noticed and asked

my mom to return those clothes!

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?   It's A Wonderful Life

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?   I pick up things throughout

the year, but don't get serious until around two weeks before Thanksgiving.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?   No.  (Not that I haven't been

tempted)  If I don't like it, I donate it.  I really try to give people things I think

they'd love.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?   Pauline's fudge

16. Lights on the tree?   yes and no - if yes, white ones

17. Favorite Christmas song?   I don't have a favorite - but love the hymns

family and children in our home.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?   yes

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?   star(s)

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?   The kids get to open their

new PJs and one other gift they select on Christmas Eve.  I get everyone up

at 4 AM Christmas morning, and we open gifts then.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?   I love the “Grinch-types”

and the people that love it all.  I try not to be annoyed at this time of year.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color?   I like the rich traditional colors - the

deep reds of roses and deep greens of pines.  We were married five days

before Christmas, and those were our colors.

24. Favorite food for Christmas dinner?   prime rib, salad, and a baked potato

(This is a delicious meal that is easy to prepare and doesn't glue me to the

kitchen.)  We have soups and salads on Christmas Eve - light food before

midnight services.

25. What do you want for Christmas this year?   a wooden squirrel and

World Peace

26.  Do you peek?   I'd rather be surprised - unless it's going to be an

unpleasant “surprise” on Christmas Day.  Let's just say I know which gifts

to deal with before…(this elf knows not to let the little things ruin the magic -

and this elf knows which “little things” try every year)

“merry merry merry Christmas….merry merry merry Christmas…two turtle doves, three…two…..'” LOL I mean the turtle doves may not be the words…but the merry christmas is there, like three times.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?  Wrapping paper with big bows and homemade gift tags.

2. Real tree or artificial?  I haven't had a tree since 1987, but this year a real one for the first Christmas in my farmhouse!

3. When do you put up the tree?  On the Saturday at least a week before Christmas.

4. When do you take the tree down?  On New Years Day

5. Do you like eggnog?  Yes. At least one 1/2 gallon per holiday. I already have a quart in my refrigerator and it's half gone.

6. Favorite gift received as a child?  A Tonka dump truck and a softball mitt. Those weren't the conventional gifts for a girl in the 50's. Back then girls got dolls and boys got trucks. Thank goodness for a grandmother who really understood me.

7. Hardest person to buy for?  My son. If it's something he really wants, he's usually already bought it for himself. I don't even understand most of the electronic or computer gadgets he has, much less being able to pick one for him. He loves history though, so I've started buying him hardbacks of David McCullough's series on the American presidents. His book on John Adams was a mini-series last spring.

8. Easiest person to buy for?  My niece - I never had a girl so I love buying her things I couldn't buy for my son.

9. Do you have a nativity scene?  Yes  - the one my grandmother bought when she moved from WV to California in 1951. She bought each piece separately at Woolworth's. They still have the price stickers on the bottom. The sheep were a nickle, camels were a dime, and the wise men, shepherds, and Mary and Joseph were 15 cents each. Baby Jesus was only a nickle - he's about the size of the lambs so I guess they priced the pieces by size. The stable was 35 cents - a real splurge.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?  Mail - home-printed cards with a picture of my farm on the front and envelopes printed with a small picture on the corner.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?  I can't really think of one. I've always been self-concious about getting presents. I love giving them though.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?  'Miracle on 34th St.' - the one with Natalie Wood and 'A Christmas Carol' - the 1951 version with Alistair Sim playing Scrooge.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?  I pick up things throughout the year as I see things I know are right for each one I buy for. I have a closet where I store them. Everyone knows you DON'T OPEN MOM'S CLOSET! After Thanksgiving I look for things to fill out the list.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?  I have re-wrapped a Chirstmas present to donate it to charity, but I've never given it to a friend or family member.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?  My grandmother's Apple Butter Black Walnut Cake

16. Lights on the tree?  The large colored bulbs like we had in the 50's - definitely not twinkling.

17. Favorite Christmas song?  Two - 'What Child is This'  and  'O Holy Night'

I found a link to a group called Celtic Woman singing 'O Holy Night' -  I cry every time I hear it it's so beautiful

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ-8jYpa1-o&feature=related

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?  Stay home

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?  Yes (but only because I can recite 'Twas The Night Before Christmas' poem)

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?  Angel

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?  One on Christmas Eve and the rest in the morning. When we were kids my mom always managed to make sure the one package we opened on Christmas eve was our new pajamas - which we wore in all the Christmas pictures taken around the tree on Christmas morning.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?  The holidays are over too soon.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color?  Old glass Christmas tree ornaments passed down to me from my grandmother, and snowflakes I crocheted back when I was a new bride and had no money to buy ornaments.

24. Favorite food for Christmas dinner?  Turkey with Oyster Bread Stuffing. Actually I bake the turkey just so I can justify making the stuffing!

25. What do you want for Christmas this year? Good health and easy births for the lambs we are expecting mid-December. It's my first time as a ewe's mid-wife so pray for the lambs!

26. Do you peek?  I'd like to say no, but I really do when I can. I won't let anyone else peak…I hide mine too well.

24. Favorite food for Christmas dinner?  We don't really have a big Christmas dinner.  We have Ham and stuff that we munch on all day.  We're to busy with the day to eat!

25. What do you want for Christmas this year? My wedding ring fixed, and snow.

26. Do you peek?  Yes I do, every chance I get! I'll start bugging hubby the day after Thanksgiving about what he's bought. But he's a Christmas eve shopper, so I usually don't find anything.
