BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE

Directions

  1. Cream butter, gradually add sugar, beating at medium speed of an electric mixer until well blended.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  3. Combine flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
  4. Stir in flavorings.
  5. Pour into greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.
  6. Bake at 325 degrees F (163 degrees C) for 1 hour.

I used Butternut flavoring instead of lemon this time.  Man, did it give it some good flavor and color.  I used only a cup and a half of sugar and it was sweet enough.  Then I put it into 2 loaf pans, 8 1/2 X 4 1/2 instead of a tube pan.  They baked up in one hour and 5 minutes a 325 degrees.

The vanilla and butternut flavorings are sooooo good.  Next time I might used some orange vest and juice to make it an orange pound cake.

Sounds yummy!  And wouldn't this be a great addition to a Christmas gift basket?

Hahahahaha….I just read on another post that you are a pound cake lover. ME TOO!!!  I make all kinds of pound cakes and give them to anyone that even looks at me caddy-wonkered!  LOL  I love baking them but David and I can't eat them all.  My neighbors always benefit from my baking sprees and love it.

This cake turned out sooooo good!  Very moist, not heavy at all.  I set the timer for 1 hour and then looked at it to see if it needed more time.  They needed just that 5 more minutes and were gently pulling away from the sides so I took them out.

I have made the Orange Pound Cake that the barefoot contessa makes from the Food Network….it is to die for!  3 tablespoons of luscious orange zest and fresh orange juice….oh man…pure heaven!

I'm so glad you saw this recipe…I thought it was just too funny when I saw your posting of needing pound cake and would NOT do without!  LOL

I feel sorry for you not being able to enjoy a slice tho! How can you stand it? Or can you eat just 1 piece then give it away?

Oh I eat some of it!!!  There is just no way that I could NOT eat it!  My beloved would eat the whole thing if he could…LOL  David rations it out and makes it last.

I usually make 2 of everything, keep one and give the other away.  My neighbors are very elderly and can't make things like breads and cakes anymore.  Probably because I keep them supplied!  They are great little neighbors though and are dear to me.

I'm going back through the older posts, and found this one.

I've got a recipe for Cream Cheese Pound Cake that I make/give away every year.

LOVE IT.  It came from one of the Southern Living annuals–the Nov 95 section, I believe.  It got the highest rating possible for a recipe, from their kitchens.

Yes.  It is *that* good.

DH doesn't care for pound cake, and even with five children, we cannot–should not!–eat that much cake.  So I make them and give them away.

Of course, usually after a marathon baking session, I don't *want* any, either.  LOL.  12 of those babies in one day, is waaaaaayyy too much pound cake on the senses!
