Ross asked me to write him a note to excuse him from school at noon yesterday. It was the last day of school for seniors. They weren’t going to be doing anything in the afternoon. Finals would be over. Seniors are already getting out two weeks early, but even those last few hours were too much to bear. He’s eager to be out of high school–forever. He asked me to write a note giving him permission to leave at noon. I wrote the note then burst into tears when I realized it was the last excuse note I’d ever write for him….. Eighteen and out of high school. He’ll have to excuse himself from now on. Is it too late to start over with kindergarten?
"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

"First it's glowing, then it's snowing! A pause, then screaming squalls and williwaws. Bright but bitter, then a thaw. Yet again it's cold and storming: What ever happened to global warming?"

Do you remember that old, old song by Jim Croce “Time in a Bottle”? Only once my kids were grown did that song have meaning for me. Now I blubber like a baby when it comes on the oldies station.
Enjoy him and cherish your memories!!

Even if we would like to think about going back, I bet once there we’d be saying the same things as before “God I can’t wait till you graduate”.

but my oldest thinks I should start letting her drive this summer. I’m not sure if I’m ready to let that happen just yet
ps I kept that oldest home from school Friday morning so she could see her little bro and sisters in a big Hawaiian performance thingy (which I blogged about -shameless self promotion.) I’m not sure if that was an excused absence… She was dying to get back to school so she could have lunch with her friends – hurry up mom, it’s lunch time!
