Get the Chickens in the Road 2009 Wall Calendar! Click here!Posted by Suzanne McMinn on August 12, 2008
This weekend, the Charleston Daily Mail article about my blog was picked up by the Associated Press statewide. The full story or excerpts appeared on television and newspaper websites such as WSAZ-TV in Charleston, WVVA-TV, Bluefield-Beckley, The Times West Virginian in Fairmont, and (pictured left) in print in the Morgantown Dominion Post. One commenter told me they also saw it online at The Herald-Dispatch, Huntington (though I haven’t been able to track down a story link). The article may have appeared in other places that I don’t know about. If you’re visiting here because you saw the story somewhere I haven’t mentioned, please drop me a comment and let me know!
Reaction on the farm was mixed.
Clover: “I will require a makeup artist and a personal stylist for future milkings. Got that?”

Dookie: “Oh, goody, more attention for the Giant Puppy.”

Coco: “Today, I am announcing my write-in candidacy for President of the United States. I promise a Snausage in every pot, a mud puddle in every backyard, and a slobbery kiss for every voter. My first bill sent to Congress will propose two Saturdays in every week and three Sundays. The other two days will be optional vacation. I love you, man.”

While continuing to work on her full platform, Coco also demonstrated a clear energy policy.
“To conserve energy,” she suggested, “take more naps.”

The Giant Pup is open to suggestions to fill out her campaign platform. Let her know what you want!
Spartacus: “A Giant Puppy for President?”

“Prepare to die.”

I’ll give Coco my vote on one condition . . . . she must promise to bite the exiting president before she is sworn in. That would be too funny.

Congrats on your hard work being recognized by more than just us readers! Ha, of course writers must have readers. I loved the AP article and pictures. I am glad you are showing the world what a great life raising children on a farm can be. You are so right about small towns and schools. We had the same experience.
I’m all for napping, so Coco clearly has my vote and Dookie can be VP. Who knew our first woman president would also be a dog. I meant COCO!(Take note journalists that giant puppy/guard dog is a SHE.) COCO for President. COCO/DOOKIE buttons would be so cute. I would wear one.

You’ll be the most famous blogger in West Virginia. I love Coco! She’ll make a great president. Hey, at least she’s intelligent. That’s more than I can say for George.

Coco definitely has a handle on an important issue…energy conservation, and her proposal doesn’t cost billions! She’s one smart pup and has my vote! Dookie grumbles about Coco, but deep dowm I know he adores her. They would make a great team. Coco for President and Dookie for Vice President! Sparticus can be an advisor. Clover, obviously is the spokesperson. One thing I would appreciate Coco working on would be universal veterinarian care for every animal!

Great articles — it’s refreshing to see a reporter get the story straight, and too see WV presented it in such a positive manner. When I try to explain to friends and family why I moved from Southern California to a farm in WV, I just send them the link to your blog. You say what I want to say, but so much more eloquently. I’m finally home - and you know so well how satisfying that is. Deep roots and loving people — what more do you need out of life?
Best wishes from me and the sheep.
