I might learn to drive it by then, too.
I looked under the hood. Like I had any idea what I was looking at.
I looked at the steering wheel, too. Like I was ever gonna touch it.
I brought Georgia with me because she’s a tractor expert.
And she was thinking about buying one, too.
Okay, I brought her with me because I was taking her to an eye doctor appointment in Charleston yesterday.
But she enjoyed looking at the tractors. Georgia loves an outing. She climbed right on the tractor and went crazy doing doughnuts in the parking lot. Okay, not really. She’s scared of tractors. Like me. I bought one anyway. Somebody has to mow the meadow and dig a duck pond and clear brush! I bought the tractor. Do I have to do everything?
The merry woodland creatures heard about the tractor.
The scampering bunny said, “Tractor? I’ll drive the tractor!”
The deer said, “No, I will drive the tractor!”
Coco said, “Pick me! I’ll drive the tractor!”
Then the chickens got wind of it.
And this one said, “I will drive the tractor.”
“Or prepare to die!”

That tractor is totally cool! We are looking at tractors, too. Looking. All the time. Looking. There are only so many little tractors to see in our area. So, we go look at them. Again and again.
So help me Hannah, we are going to be dead before we have one here. I am no help. I like the little one that is the same color as my pick-up because it is cute. That is not the answer Himself wants from me. But, they look good together in the parking lot of tractor store number four. I do not like any at tractor store number one because they are huge, and have too many levers, gauges, buttons, and pedals. Stores two and three are okay, I guess. Nothing really that makes me want to get it home. Oh, get a sunshade for your pretty new tractor. They are cute!

Every sensible country woman needs a bright shiny red tractor. And there’s no reason for you not to learn to drive it. YOU GO GIRL!!!! And let everyone stay out of your way.

I love my Massey Furguson tractor, driving it around the yard with the big mower deck behind clearing the field in half the time of our little cub cadet garden tractor. You will not regret it! Especially if you got the front bucket, helps with all of those projects you described! We just got a woodchipper attachment this summer to work off the PTO, that is awesome since the tractor carries it around, shoots fine wood chips where you want. That would be my suggestion to you for an add on. See if there are any farm equipement auctions near you and buy that way. We have gotten most of our add ons from them at a fraction of the cost. Have fun! Oh, and keep the animals off of the tractors, they may have other ideas in mind with it!

We have two really old tractors, a Farmall Cub and an old John Deere. Very handy.
Get some instruction on how to properly attach/detach your addons … AND … learn the proper way to drive in hilly W.Va. Turnovers are Not To Be Laughed At! Also , some info on how to do a bit of your own PM.

OMG!! You are a farm girl for sure now!! Good for you! but, ya know green and yellow IS the farmers choice - at least on our farm!! LOL You are formally invited to come up here and visit so I can teach you how to drive that bugger!! You will never want to get off of it!! Your gonna feel like wonder woman on it!! LOL as far as Sparticus - you better get a chicken seat that sits on the fender so he doesnt feel left out or you will need to ‘prepare to die’! LOL

Great tractor! I’m not allowed to drive ours or our zero turn mower!!! Guess it has to do with the fact that I conk a stick shift out, and when allowed to test out the zero turn, I had it going round and round in vicious circles while laughing my head off!!!! Hmmmm, that’s not fair, you get your very own, get to pick it out AND get to drive it if you want!
Hey, have I missed something along the way, or does 52 seem to be out of the picture these days? I have searched and searched, but can’t even find a mention… ???? You know, you bare your soul to the world and inquiring minds are gonna wanna know!!!

We have an old red tractor. My husband would be drooling over those shiny new ones. I have driven it once. I had all the instructions and I made it move. Today? I have no idea how to even start that thing. Good luck learning to drive it. I’m sure practice is what it takes. You didn’t show pictures of them but I’ll bet those boys of yours cant wait to get behind the wheel of that thing

Thank you for following up on the horse. Sometimes you have to really make a fuss about this to the authorities or those who can help. I hope they seize the horse to evaluate and if necessary prosecute the owners and get the word out - this is not to be tolerated.

I wish I could have a new one. Ours has the motor out of it. It’s in the shop, who knows when we’ll get it back.
It’s old. Don’t need a key to start it. A screwdriver will do. ha ha

No, no, 52 is not out of the picture! (Well, he doesn’t like to be pictured, LOL, so he’s out of the picture from that perspective! Though he has almost agreed to let me post his picture sometime soon…) I think he is the one most likely to drive the tractor! Until I learn….. Maybe I’ll like it??
We looked and looked for a used one, but couldn’t find a decent one, so finally gave up. My cousin does have several of the tractor add-on implements, so I can borrow. All that came with this one was the front-loader thingy.

I was in an Amish/Mennonite community yesterday. A woman drove up to the little general store on her great big John Deere tractor with the bed of a pickup truck attached as a wagon. In the wagon were the most beautiful children, in Amish clothing. I wanted to take a picture, but didn’t, out of respect for their privacy. I know the Amish do not use cars, but I guess some use tractors! I can just see you driving your bright red tractor with a wagon attached and Coco peeking out!

I wanted a tractor with all the attachments. We looked for used ones, and before I could decide, my significant other bought one at an auction for $200. (He loves auctions.) The $200 John Deere is from the early 70’s and is missing a few things (tires, gas tank, etc.) He isn’t mechnically inclines. Now I have to figure out how I can get someone to come out and haul it away.
Disgusted with the search for a used tractor, I decided there was some real doubt whether (1) I could live long enough to pay for a tractor, and (2) whether I wanted to try using it on our hilltop. At least 52 is a capable farmer type - My 66 sold waterbeds for 37 years. Not a qualification for using a shiny red tractor. Need a waterbed, he’s your man. Need a pond, yell for help. Can I borrow 52??
Answer to my mowing problem? I bought a shiny new John Deere “Lawn Tractor” — it’s green like the big ones, it mows, pulls a cart, and can be fitted with a snow blade. That’s all I’ll usually need. When it’s time for a pond I’ll hire someone who has a tractor or a backhoe, and knows what to do with it.
Good luck. But I wouldn’t let the chicken drive…

Ooh, a shiny red tractor–How cute!!! Wish I had one but my neighbors in the city probably wouldn’t like it. Know what you need now? Cute Farmer clothes– like overalls, work boots and a big brimmed straw hat! Now that would be the ultimate in cool, at least in my opinion.

and what a PRETTY tractor that is!!!! I know it’ll get alot of good use and be of good use! Ohh, I love the “critters”..we have a bunny like that in our backyard, in Spring. Isn’t nature beautiful? I can’t imagine living in a big city all your life and NEVER get to see the country. I was in PR for two weeks and just got so excited to see a YARD (I was by water)…I never missed seeing a yard so much in my life! LOL

Oh cool! I just learned how to drive our tractor. It was nerve racking (so many levers!), and then it died dramatically in the middle of my lesson. According to my teachers (aka my dad and grandpa), that’s just something it does sometimes.
I should try to convince them to get one of those nice new ones that don’t die at inopportune moments!

I haven’t heard anything more on the horse. I’m a little scared to get involved more than I have because I don’t want the people to get mad at me, and I think it’s better if I leave it to the authorities. Coco is doing good with the kitties. She just doesn’t understand why they don’t want to play with her, LOL.

A new tractor! Whoa. Way cool.
Be careful on those hills. We’ve lost several friends to tractor roll-overs–it’s tricky here, especially in wet weather, or on a hillside where a groundhog has dug holes that can tip a tractor.
We have a Massey Ferguson, 1970 model, I believe. It’s still worth the same amount as we paid for it in 1980. Tractors don’t lose value if they’re in running condition.
I never learned to drive it, on purpose. Because if I did, I’d be expected to do all sorts of things I don’t want to be my job to do. I have a very bi job already, taking care of gardens and critters and house and family and putting up food–not to mention the fulltime and part-time jobs I hold.
I leave tractoring to the guys, very contented to watch ‘em work!

A smart idea to let it be - now we just have to trust that the right thing was done for him.

Suzanne, I think you are right about the horse, because I thought about it later and thought “ummm, you have to be careful..you don’t want any of the people to get mad at you, thinking you turned them in/meddled”. I mean naturally, we all want to save an animal and do the right thing, but I also have heard stories (like in Naomi Judd’s biography) of how people can be…scarey anywhere, nowadays.
