Can’t remember what the book was called, but there were some true and rather amazing stories about animals. Now, there was this chicken and one day when her nest once again was checked for eggs, instead of eggs, there were kittens! The mom of the kittens came every day to give them milk, but for the rest of the day it was the chicken who took care of them. One day, the cat had taken all the kittens with her, except for one kitten. They didn’t know if the chicken just hadn’t want to give up that kitten or if the cat had left the kitten for the chicken as a thanks.

Don’t ever stop posting that evil chicken photo! I just crack up every time I see him. Sneaky, too, the way you set us up for sentimentality with the Golden Book, then…Whamo! Love it!
