Adversity, I Spit Upon You

Steve-the-Builder: “This oven doesn’t fit.”

Me: “It has to fit. It’s the size oven the people who built the cabinets told me would fit.”

Steve-the-Builder: “It doesn’t fit.”

It would take 10 more days to order and get in another oven. And I’m tired of sandwiches. I miss my own cooking. And I can’t take any more adversity. I explain all of this to Steve-the-Builder. And contemplate sobbing.

Me: “Now is the time to get out your bionic arm and shove it in there.”

Steve-the-Builder figured and finagled. He got out saws and drills.

He sliced out an entire piece of cabinet. He got more wood and cut it up. He climbed inside the oven hole.

Then he got out his bionic arm and he shoved it in there. And it fit and it looked right, just like it was supposed to be that way and as if he didn’t have to spend six hours reconfiguring the cabinets to make it happen.

And then he put on the cooktop. (Countertop color not accurate in this picture–bright worklight in the kitchen.)

I’m cooking with gas!!

I have a kitchen.

I am so baking bread today. And giving some to Steve-the-Builder.

I really do need to borrow Steve the Builder….for about a year or so. The adversity in my home will keep him busy 24-7!

How about Irish Soda Bread? Celebrate the day!

Congrats, Suzanne, (and Steve the Builder - job extraordinarily well done  !)!

I can’t figure out if Steve-the-Builder really loves you or is in total fear of you.LOL I don’t know any builder that would spend six hours trying to get a stove to fit. You are a lucky girl! Happy baking and happy St. Patrick’s Day.

Yeah for Steve the Builder! If he’s like any man I’ve ever known, he’ll jump through at least a few hoops to prevent the sobbing! Woman’s tears=among man’s biggest fears! He so deserves some bread!

Holy crap. I want to have Steve-the-Builder’s babies. Don’t let this man go! When he’s finished, keep him chained in your basement for emergencies.

We had to do this too! Only I didn’t have a Steve The Builder, I had a Husband The Builder. Alpha Man used his bionic arm and fixed all.

Maybe I should make bread today too. Your banana bread . . .

Yay Steve the Builder and his bionic arm! If this was a Lowe’s mistake again, you’re not alone. I think Lowe’s cabinet makers use new math.

How COOL is THAT?! I want a “Steve the Builder” to build our house…when we can afford it! :clock: I also want a gas stove…we had an older, awesome, gas stove in our very 1st house, years ago. This house, although over 170 years old, came w/an electric stove. There is a gas hook-up, so when this one dies (normally, I’d be happy about having an older stove that has lasted another 10 years!), I’m going back to a gas top.

I’m so excited about your move. Thanks for letting all of us w/the same dream live vicariously through you! :sheepjump:

    Blessings from Ohio…

I need a “Bob-the-Builder” guy in my life. My husband is of the non-tool using variety. Read this article by a friend of ours about her “Tom-the-Handyman” in her life.

Sorry for the long URL. You can also search http://www.dallasnews.com for Sipiora. She’s the director of our county’s only homeless shelter in McKinney TX. :woof:

EVERYONE should have a builder like this. Does Steve TRAVEL for his job. Does he like the Northeast? Does he like ocean? Lobster? Shellfish? ‘Cause I just MAY have a house for him to work on….Suzanne you are one lucky girl in many ways!
