Princess: You remember that time you drank two glasses of wine and drove me to ballet class and you ran into a ditch?
Me: What?!
Princess: You drank two glasses of wine before you took me to ballet and you ran the car into a ditch.
Me: That never happened! First of all, your ballet class was at 3 in the afternoon so I was certainly never drinking wine and taking you to ballet, and second of all, Texas is flat and there weren’t any ditches around there, and third, I’ve never driven my car into a ditch in my life. (A river, maybe. But not a ditch…. And I wasn’t drinking!) What else do you remember about when we lived in Texas? The pet elephant you rode around the yard every day after school?
16 walks into the room.
Me: Tell her I never drank two glasses of wine and took her to ballet and ran the car into a ditch.
16: I told her that never happened the last time I heard her telling people that story.
Me: She’s been TELLING PEOPLE THIS STORY?!
16: Yeah, but when I heard her tell it, you had four glasses of wine.

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. My then-twelve-year-old son walked in the door and said, “You’ve brought us to this slanted little house to die." Keep reading our story....

"First it's glowing, then it's snowing! A pause, then screaming squalls and williwaws. Bright but bitter, then a thaw. Yet again it's cold and storming: What ever happened to global warming?"

My four year old granddaughter tells people I run red lights. The red lights she sees are the ones out the side windows that belong to the side traffic, but you can’t convnce her any different.

THIS NEVER HAPPENED!!!!! I was so obedient and timid I doubt I even crossed the street without permission.
Anyway, my mom has been telling this story to my brothers, and I finally found out about this about a month ago, and explained how this had never happened.
My oldest brother admitted to being disappointed. He was thrilled I had done something so rebellious (come on Scott-Barry Manilow rebellious?)
My mom has convinced herself her story is true. My daughter wishes the story was true so if she ever does anything like that, I’d be understanding.
My husband has said we (my daughter and I) can go to all the Barry Manilow concerts we’d like.
I think she ran screaming from the room.

Pretty funny, though, from an uninvolved point-of-view. Funny how kids come up with these stories and repeat them so many times they convince themselves it’s true.
