Wild day lilies, covering the roadsides in West Virginia right now….
Conversation with 16 about Secrets Rising:
16: “So what is your book about again?”
Me: “Well, there’s this town, and weird stuff happens.” (This is how I wanted to propose it to my editor, but she wanted more details. Odd.)
16: “Why does the weird stuff happen?”

Me: “There was this electric storm, rain and lightning–”
16: “So people were struck by lightning and got superpowers?”
Me: “No, they don’t have superpowers. Supernatural stuff HAPPENS.”
16: “Because of the storm?”
Me: “There was an earthquake DURING the electric storm and it created the perfect combination of atmospheric conditions and pressure. There were these positive ions that were released–”
16: “Do you even know what positive ions are?”
Me: “That is not the point.”
16: “Peter Parker got bitten by an arachnid. That’s why he got powers. I guess that makes as much sense.”
Me: “Exactly.”

Does anyone know if West Virginia has ever actually had any kind of recordable tremors the last 100 years or so?

Hahaha! Love the conversation with the 16 year old. Trust kids to point out the faults in our reasoning when theirs is usually wonky anyway!
