All 36 of Them

My Precious Darlings

Eighth grade graduation at the tiny little school in our tiny little town. When there are only 36 students in the entire grade, as #2 says, “You have to be friends with everyone.” Like that’s a hardship, LOL. The truth is, he’s made some really close bonds as a result and I’m happy about that. As we drove away from the school for the last time with him as a student there, he said, “I’m going to miss my friends.” I reminded him that he’d be back together with them–in a few weeks–at football mini-camp at the county high school where he’s already been working out with the coaches after school for months preparing for his first season of high school football. He can’t wait.

The eighth graders get the last two days of school out, so he’s done. The principal turned to them last night and said, “You’re ninth graders now.”

He’s in high school. How did that happen?

14, 5′ 11 1/2″, 166 pounds.

But he still calls me mommy.

Good luck to all 36 of the 2007 graduates of Walton Elementary/Middle School!

And remember, if you don’t succeed in life, you can always marry an ugly millionaire.

Went to a combined eight grade/high school graduation couple of weeks ago. Fifteen seniors, 12 eight-graders. Eighth-grade girls wore white prom-style dresses, boys wore khakis, white shirts and ties. Lots of speeches, class histories. Whole thing lasted about an hour.

My high school graduation? Probably took an hour just to have us (800+) march around the venue and take our seats.

I liked our friend’s son grad much more.

They grow up so fast! First he’s crashing your car, then he’s graduating to high school. My eldest just started middle school. What a world of difference that turned out to be.
