Blackout!

Jan
9

Old oil derrick in Roane County.

They’re doing this thing on “Good Morning, America” where they have people give up various things for a week–wearing makeup, cell phones, coffee, etc. Weenies. Yesterday I had no electricity, no water, and no phone. All day. I think they should try THAT on GMA. I handled it like a champ. Okay, my cousin’s mother has a rotary dial phone, which still worked without electricity, so I did run over and use it to check on after-school basketball practice. And I went to a friend’s house and took a shower. And I did spend an inordinate amount of time rambling around Wal-Mart admiring the electricity and working televisions in the electronics department. I stopped by the library to use the bathroom. Do I have survivalist skills or what?

Old Farmer\'s Almanac

March 2010
"Lamb-y, then whammy! Get some tickets to Miami! Snow is easing, but we're still freezing. It may be spring by the astronomer, but not by the thermometer. Mighty fine, then leonine."
