My name is Peggie and I am a book wookie.

I didn't know until I read the symptoms.

I meet all 10 criteria. Not only that, I also have a whole shelf dedicated to books I loved in my childhood. Through many years and many moves I have kept childhood favorites such as Hop on Pop and Green Eggs and Ham. Recently I added to the shelf when I happened across a copy of The Saggy Baggy Elephant.

I've also kept my original copies of PS I Love You, the Outsiders and A Walk Out Of The World as well as the entire Anne of Green Gables line. :hyper:

I am a Book Wookie and I can not control my addiction.

Hi, I'm definitely a book wookie and I've known it since I was about 15. I exhibit almost all the behavior listed above except...I don't know where each book is. I have at least half my 4 or 5 thousand books in storage because I moved from a large house to a small apartment when my mother became ill and I could no longer care for her. I also don't know exactly where each of the new books is that I bought since I moved into my apartment. I ran out of space long ago although I've seriously cut down on my spending because I don't have the money for it on only a meager disability pension. Since I catalogue all my books and didn't get to do that as I bought them (my second-hand computer went out on me too many times to keep up), there is quite a hodge-podge backlog around.

I'm nearing 20,000 entries in my database, but...no-no, I don't have quite that many books. Some are books that I read from the library or that I gave away or that are stories in anthologies, poems in literary textbooks, etc....you get the picture. I've gotten requests from relatives and friends as to whether I have a poem by...or this or that book.

My family doesn't understand me and, well, sometimes I don't understand myself.

Yep. I'm definitely a book wookie and thanks to you, Suzanne, I already have the book.

BTW, for a Roberts book, an autographed "Promise Me Tomorrow" is quite rare. There aren't many places that I've heard of that she actually autographs books. I had to look for years to find my somewhat shabby non-autographed copy of this book.

Autographs in the early days were quite rare. It's only in the last couple of years that there have been book-signings, conventions and cyber-signings. It took even Nora Roberts a while to become famous. In fact, I didn't collect her books right away. There were several authors that I prefer. My first keeper of hers was "This Magic Moment" which is stil one of my favorites.

Yeah, I know. Enough now. :wall:

Auriette, one of my childhood fantasies was always working in a bookstore, too! I just thought it had to be the coolest thing to be surrounded by books all the time!!

Wow! I never knew I was a book collector. I collect "Star Wars" toys and they mostly sit on shelves. And the bells and dolls and giraffes that my mom collected for me also sat on shelves. Books are on shelves, but they come off to be read, enjoyed, and put back again. My mom taught me to read by the time I was three years old. She caught me coloring in one of my books once, and quickly taught me to respect the printed word. I can barely stand to throw out a magazine and a book -- never! I'm even afraid to loan them out, because who know how someone else will handle them -- turning down the pages, breaking the spine. It makes my skin crawl!

Hey, I even spent about six years working in bookstores (my childhood fantasy was to get locked in a bookstore after hours!).

So, yes, I'm definitely a book Wookiee. And, as I mentioned, I'm a "Star Wars" nut, too; I have several costumes, but none with hair.

Oh, yes. I am definitively a book wookie. I do or have done most of the things described in the list. I just love books and I have a lot that are special. Well, I acept it, I not only love books, I "need" them.

I began collecting books in my teens when I discovered Agatha Christie, who was my first favorite author, and I have all her books and some related books too. In the latest years, I collected mostly romances, and I am very lucky because I have discovered many great authors and have many wonderful books.

I can't comprehend selling a signed book on ebay just to make some cash. PBW wrote about that awhile ago, how she'd sent a book and letter to a fan as a nice gesture, and found the blasted thing for sale.

I do take books by the bag full to the UBS occasionally, but none of my keepers.

My all-time treasured book? A falling-apart ancient copy of The Boxcar Children my mom bought at a yard sale like a hundred years ago.

I am also a book wookie! I love books and always have. When just little would go to library and get lots of books. Now there are books all around our house. I also get upset when someone says I should get rid of some of them.

keep collecting books).
I have autographed books, I have books taking up an inordinate amount of space and
I re-read favorite books - should I go on.
I think you get the picture.:hyper:

I am definitely a book collector. When I moved into this house I bought a row of bookshelves to cover a wall and then I just had to buy a ton of books to fill them. Actually I just wanted an excuse to buy some books. I haunt used book sales and used bookstores to make my dollar stretch. And I enter as many book contests as I have time for.
